He received his teaching credential and started his teaching career in Slick, Oklahoma as a high school teacher. Clyde soon introduced John to the Chocolate Mountains and vast Imperial Valley Desert, of which the two would explore on the weekends in Clyde's Jeep. After the birth of his two sons, Kurt and Victor, Clyde and he exposed them to the joys of the desert and hunting, as John was on the Army Rifle Team. He taught his boys the fun of hunting and the responsibility of gun ownership, being as he was a member of the NRA for over 20 years. John was our Math and Science instructor at Desert Valley High School and he was a great friend and co-worker of mine along with Mrs. Dolores Hammerness and Silas Sanchez. We were quite a team and I really appreciate and remember those great days like it was yesterday, 1968 thru 1980 when I transferred to BUHS as Assistant Principal. RIP my friend, loved working with you.

Dear Joan and sons,
My prayers are with you in your time of grief. I remember John well as a great teacher (and counselor) of young men and women during our 13 years of working together at Desert Valley High School in Brawley. John certainly was "one-of-a-kind" when it came to working with "at-risk" kids (young men and women) in a continuation high school setting. He, Dolores H., and I kept the place going from 68 through 81 when I transferred to BUHS. And, I can honestly say that my 13 years of working with John were the best of my 35 year career in education. I will never forget our memories of "the dump", "the watering hole", etc., etc. He was a great friend and teacher who will be dearly missed. Al

Mrs Steincamp, Kurt and Victor.
Sorry to hear of your loss. If there was a way of to soften the blow of loosing a loved one? That's something that God handles. Your emotions are raw and memories are painful and thoughts of regret. Given time your tears will turn to smiles. The memories will be good and will warm the heart. Any regrets will be replaced with the knowledge that we all do the best we can. This is my wish for you.
