It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Hortencia "Tencha" De La Rosa, beloved mother and grandmother, on Monday, February 10, 2025, in Chula Vista, CA. at the age of 85. Tencha was born in Bryte, California on July 9, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents, Atanacio (Nacho) and Otilia (Tillie) De La Rosa; and brothers, Nacho, Robert, Richard, and Arturo "Turi" De La Rosa.
Tencha attended Calexico schools and was always proud to be a "BULLDOG." In her younger days, she enjoyed music, dancing, and occasionally indulging in a "raspado", her code word for a margarita. During her lifetime, she held several jobs in the valley, but the job she cherished the most was being "grandma." Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy and accomplishment. She was extremely proud of all of them and played a pivotal role in each of their lives. As they begin their own families, each of them carries forward her legacy of strength, perseverance and love. Although Tencha was a few weeks shy of witnessing the birth of her great-grandchildren, we are certain they would have loved "Grandma #1."
Tencha is survived by her children, Hortencia Garcia-Rubio (Mike), Luis S. Garcia Jr. (Rosalinda), and Monica Garcia-Willette (Devin); grandchildren, Frankie Rubio, Eddie Garcia (Francilia, Micah, and Elijah), Elisa Garcia, Michael Garcia, Mia Conde, Mirabella Conde, and Marisa Conde; two sisters, Elizabeth Pinkie De La Rosa-Anderson (Leighton) and Sally Brewer; and one brother, Jessie De La Rosa.
Although she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that she has gone to be with our Lord and is resting in eternal peace.
A mass will be held on March 8, 2025, at 4 p.m .at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico, followed by a celebration of life at the Parish Hall from 5-8 p.m.
