WESLEY DEAN LUNCEFORD
Aug. 24, 1937 - Feb. 7, 2015
Wesley Dean Lunceford Sr. died Saturday, February 7, 2015, at his home in Brawley.
Wes was born August 24, 1937, in Provo, Utah, to the late Dean and Lela (Hawkins) Lunceford. As a young boy he moved with his family to the Imperial Valley and graduated in 1955 from Brawley Union High School.
He was known as "the best machinist in town" and for many years worked at Shank & Kretz Machine & Auto Parts. Later, he lent his expertise across the valley to the gold mining and geothermal industries.
Wes was always the strong, silent type – a man of few words – and generous to a fault. He appreciated sports and was quick to play the odds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Lela Lunceford; a brother, Gary Lunceford; a sister, Vickie Lunceford; and two grandchildren, Renee and Kris Baker.
Survivors include two sons, Wesley Dean Lunceford Jr. and wife Joanne of San Diego and Daniel Lunceford of Socorro, NM; a daughter, Kim Gibby and husband Mykol of Jacksboro, TX; his ex-wife and longtime caregiver, Jacqulyn Lunceford of Brawley; six grandchildren, Lisa Lunceford, Richard Lunceford, Melynda Hammons, Chris Brown, Loriann Ward and Bethany Brown; sister-in-law Judy Lunceford; niece Debbie O'Brien; nephew Mark Lunceford; cousin Ronnie Lunceford and wife Georgia; and two stepchildren, Kelly Baker and family of Brawley and Charlotte Badgley and family of Bakersfield.
Visitation and Chapel Service will be held at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley on Saturday, February 14. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and service will follow. Wes will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Wes' American Legion family for looking out for him these last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Legion Charities or a charity of your choice.

Please accept my sincerest and heart filled condolences to the Lunceford family. I worked with Wesley in the geothermal industry many years ago. He really was a man of few words but he always managed a few kind words and was really witty once you got to know him. May God be with him on his journey.
