Debra Brown Obituary

Debra Ann Brown, 69, of Jackson Georgia, died on Saturday, December 23, 2023.

She was born in Griffin, Georgia on Thursday, January 21, 1954, to Joseph Harvey Brown Sr. (Big Joe) and Sara Ann Deraney Brown (Big Mama) of Jackson. Debra was a lifelong resident of Jackson where she attended Jackson High School and graduated in 1971.

Debra was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Harvey Brown Sr. (Big Joe) and Sara Ann Deraney Brown (Big Mama), her beloved uncle and aunt C.B. Brown and Sadie Brown, and her "brother" Charlie Brown. Debra is survived by her two brothers: Joe (Cathy) Brown of Jackson and David (Monica) Brown of Peachtree City. She is also survived by other "sisters": Sandra (Alan) Ayers of Jackson and Connie McIntyre of John's Creek. Other survivors include her beloved "children" Jodi (Brandon) Combs, Joey (Chastity) Brown, Amy (Dave) Fountain, Tommy Holland, Niki Dufrene: and "Grandchildren" Will Combs, Lily and Bo Brown, Kylie Grace (Trey) Butler, Ethan Fountain, Talon and Nolan Holland, and Allie Knight and Ava Wooden.

For many years Debra worked at Brown's Furniture and Appliance on the square in Jackson. With the closing of Brown's, Debra went to work for American Mills in their retail store for over ten years until her health declined.

Debra's love of her community dates back many decades. She was actively involved in the recreation department as a softball player and coach for many years. She volunteered for decades helping with fundraising and working the concession stand with the Jackson High School booster club. When the City of Jackson Can-a-thon started in 1997, Debra volunteered for over 20 years to help make it a success. During the same time, she was also actively involved with the Salvation Army, serving on their Board of Directors for over 20 years making sure local families had their holiday needs met. She also volunteered with the City of Jackson helping during annual holiday events like the annual 4th of July fireworks.

Debra was known for showing love and kindness to everyone she met. She also loved the Jackson Red Devils, the Atlanta Braves, and Auburn football.

Funeral services for Debra Ann Brown will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Dr. Ed Hoard will officiate. Entombment will follow the service in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum located in the Jackson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Expressions of sympathy may be offered online by visiting www.haistenfuneral.com

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local Salvation Army, Champions Community Foundation, 2850 Old Alabama Rd., Johns Creek, GA 30022, or the charity of your choice.

I really got to know Debra through the Relay for Life events we had in Butts Co. Her smile is one of the first things I think of when I hear Debra´s name. She was always so sweet and sassy and I loved it. Rest in peace my sweet friend!!
