Barbara J. Metzger Gable

Barbara J. Metzger Gable, 83, of Rossville, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at Milner Community Health Care in Rossville.

She was born October 27, 1930, in Ross Twp., Clinton County, the daughter of Harry and Mertie Martz Metzger. On January 2, 1949, Barbara married Max Gable; he preceded her in death May 22, 1999.

Barbara graduated from Rossville High School in 1948. She was a lifelong resident of Rossville. She worked for Claude and Darel Tipmore at Darel's Café for seven years. Barbara worked at Milner Community Health Care where she was Dietary Supervisor from 1971 until 1992 before retiring in December 2002. She was a member of the Rossville Church of the Brethren and the Present Day Club. Barbara enjoyed playing cards and watching TV. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

She is survived by two children, Phillip (Julie) Gable of Rossville and Terri Johnson of Monticello; one sister, Opal Felix of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Clint Johnson, Dustin Johnson, Jillina (Justin) Widmer, and Ashley Gable; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara is preceded in death by an infant son, Roger; sister, Helen Harshbarger; and two brothers, Orville Metzger and Maurice Metzger.

Visitation for Barbara will be held at Genda Funeral Home Rossville Chapel on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11 am with Pastor Allen Weldy officiating. Burial will follow in Rossville Cemetery.
