Michael Chapman Obituary
Michael J. Chapman, 30, of Lafayette, passed away at his home at 1:31 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012. Born August 15, 1981, in Lafayette, he was the son of John H. and Rosemary L. Sanna Chapman, of Lafayette. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 2000 and attended Vincennes University.
His marriage was to Megan E. Ponto on December 30, 2006, at St. Mary Cathedral and she survives. Michael was an EMT with Prompt Ambulance Central and a volunteer fireman for Sheffield Township. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and the IVFA (Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association). He enjoyed being a firefighter, being a Daddy to his lil' "monkey," building model cars and playing video games.
Surviving with his wife and parents is his daughter, Alexis N. Chapman at home; three sisters, Mary Beth (husband: Robin) Coyner, of Dayton, Kathleen (husband: Mark) Beville, of Heidelburg, Germany and Patty (husband: Kyle) Stage, of Kokomo; his in-laws, Bob and Peg Ponto of Fowler; brother and sister-in-laws, Annie (husband: Tim) Edwards and Kate (fiancé: Joel) Ponto; five nieces, Abbey, Rachel and Grace Beville, Kelly and Molly Stage; and one nephew, Jace Edwards.
Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Cathedral with Father Daniel Gartland officiating. Interment to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions in Michael's name be made to the Michael J. Chapman Trust Fund care of daughter Alexis or the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Dept. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care. "Chappy" ur never ending smile and joking sense of humor are still fresh in my mind as I along with so many miss you. You were a wonderful person, friend and coworker. I will miss working with you at Prompt and miss having you come in the emergency room for a brief visit. I pray for you friend.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike through the hospital. He was always friendly and I hardly ever seen him upset. My prayers and thoughts are with Megan and Lexi and both of their families for their great loss. He will be greatly missed!!

I had the privilege and honor to have know and worked with Mike for just a short time. In that time I grew to trust and rely on him when I needed it most. Such is a rare quality today. He was also fun to work with and had I know him longer, I would have called him a friend, an even more uncommon quality. Megan and Alexis, words fail me at times like these. Know that God has a destiny for you, time eases your grief, and will heal this wound. You and your families are in our prayers.
