West Lafayette - Mitchell W. Shepard, 58, of West Lafayette, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, Sept 29, 2019, at St Elizabeth East ER in Lafayette. He was born August 17, 1961 in Monticello, to his late father John A. "Jack" Shepard, and his mother Doris L. Houser Shepard who survives. He was a 1979 graduate of Harrison High School. He worked for Franciscan Health, at St Elizabeth Central in Lafayette, for 25 years as a boiler technician. He enjoyed camping, fishing, kayaking, and traveling. He loved to be outside, especially in the country. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts, and enjoyed Purdue Sports. Mitch never met a stranger, was easy going, and had a great sense of humor. He dearly loved his family, and the time they spent together. Surviving: son-Justin B. Shepard of West Lafayette; mother-Doris L. Shepard of Delphi; brother-Kevin J. Shepard & Penny Paligraf of West Lafayette; nepews-Matthew J. Shepard of West Lafayette, Chris & Tina Shepard of Lafayette. Preceded in death by a brother Bradley J. Shepard. Services: Visitation will be Wednesday at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi, from 11am until his funeral service at 1pm, Rev. Todd Ladd officiating. Mitch was a good guy, and he was very easy to get along with at work. He definitely loved to pull pranks on people, and he was helpful to work with in the boiler room. He loved to tell stories and hear funny stories. I especially enjoyed going to work there at ST. E Central to see what ever funny pic/ saying he posted in the boiler room bathroom or trying to find where he put the fake rat before "it/the rat" found me!

I'm still in shock! Mitch was a very friendly person. Always laughing and tipping his hat or having a banana in his pocket. I'm like Kenny short by remembering the black tape rolling quietly behind us and eventually catching up with us while walking the basement halls. RIP you will be missed.

I still cant believe my friend is gone. Mitch and I have worked together for many years. I will miss his pranks, his scaring the crap out of me and his infectious laugh. One of his favorite things to do was tape rolling. He could take a roll of black tape and roll that thing for 2 city blocks. He taught me so much about the operation of the boilers and all the equipment at the Central boiler room. Fly high my friend you have earned your angel wings. R.I.P..........Kenny

I worked with Mitch all the time he worked at St E. I don't think I ever saw him really upset as he always had a smile, a laugh and a good joke to tell. And he was always trying to pull practical jokes on all of us in Maintenance...some worked and some didn't but we always laughed about it later. He will be missed.
