Neil Maitland Obituary
Mulberry - Neil Maitland, 64, died on Wednesday, August 29, at Mulberry Health where he resided the past seven years. He was born in Michigan City to Lawrence and Olga Maitland.
Neil grew up in Beverly Shores, IN. He had a wonderful childhood with great friends. He enjoyed spending time at the beach, playing hockey at the "pond", working on vehicles, playing the drums, and hiking at the Indiana Dunes State Park. Neil attended Elston High School and was a proud graduate of Purdue University. Neil became an alarm technician, then started his own business, Liberty Alarm Company. He was very thorough as he provided peace of mind to his customers.
Neil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend. Neil and Barbara were married for 29 years. They have one daughter, Kathleen, whom Neil adored. She is definitely a Daddy's Girl. He lit up when his granddaughter Aryanna visited. Neil was kind, compassionate, loyal, witty, and hard working. He liked time with family and friends, nature, and music.
Neil's family would like to thank the nurses, CNAs, and staff at Mulberry Health (especially Unit 100) for the loving care they provided to Neil every day.
Neil is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Kathleen (James) Foltz; and granddaughter Aryanna.
To celebrate Neil's freedom from Alzheimer's, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 15 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm at Mulberry Health. A Remembrance Celebration will be at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Walk for the Mulberry Health team in Neil's memory . Barb and family,
I remember the first time I talked to Neil on the telephone concerning what the staff at Dayton Elementsry school should get you for your birthday, he was so sweet and even called me back to give me extra ideas.
