Patsy Albertson Obituary

Patsy Lynn Albertson

Patsy Lynn (Knox) Albertson died Tues. morning, Aug. 18, 2015 from complications due to cancer at Methodist Hospital at 7:08 AM, surrounded by her family who loved her very much.

Patsy was born in Lebanon, on Aug.14, 1946 to Bob and Mary Knox, and lived in Advance (Boone Co.), until college. She was the oldest of four siblings; Kathy Gerow of Brownsburg, Betty Strawmyer of Lebanon, and Mark Knox of Dover.

After receiving a B.S. degree from Indiana St. and a M.S. from Purdue, she took a teaching job at Crouch Elem. in Lafayette. Patsy was a natural teacher, which suited her caring and patient personality, and was extremely popular with her students, many of which she was in contact with throughout her life. She truly touched more lives in a positive way while teaching than can be counted, and received several former student recognition awards during her teaching career.

It was at Crouch Elem. in 1974 that an extremely lucky salesman walked up and introduced himself to her in the hallway. His name was Clay Albertson from Nineveh. They married on June 30, 1979 in Advance. Clay had two children from a previous marriage; Elyse Marie Albertson (Zachary Swartz (age 16), Zoe Swartz (14)) of Noblesville, IN, and Jay Paul (wife, Amy) Albertson (Olivia Albertson (age 13), Tess Albertson (9)) of Indianapolis, IN.

Clay and Patsy moved to Grand Ledge, MI in 1979 where Patsy taught at Hayes Elem. In 1982, Clay and Patsy moved back to W. Lafayette, where she taught at Glen Acres Elem., completing 44 years of teaching and dedication to the community. They lived for the remainder of their time together in West Lafayette. In 1983, Patsy gave birth to her only child, Sarah Elizabeth Albertson (husband, Brian Smith) (Reese Smith (2)) of Lafayette. Much like Patsy was with her own mother Mary, Sarah and Patsy were as close as a mother and daughter could be, and did not go a day without speaking to each other.

Patsy was a wife, mother, teacher, fantastic cook (lasagna and beef brisket were her specialties), Rod Stewart fan, hand-held video game aficionado, Jeopardy expert, and guardian angel to countless children. It is for Patsy's love of children that in lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to Albertson's Angels Fund (c/o Glen Acres Elem. School - 765-771-6150) which will buy clothes, shoes and medical services for children in need.

Visitation will be held on Fri., Aug. 28, at Federated Church in W. Lafayette from 3-7 PM. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Sat., Aug. 29 also at Federated Church. Graveside services will follow in Fair Haven Cemetery in Mulberry at 1:30 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to Genda Funeral Home Mulberry Chapel. My favorite teacher still, she helped me when I went through a tough situation in 3rd grade. She'd help my mom as well, always smiling and brighting anyone's day. Since I sat next to her I remember she'd always give me candy corn so I'd work. A truly wonderful person. She will be in my prayers and dearly missed.

I was Patsy's principal for seven years. She helped me to become a better administrator, educator, mom, and person. She could light up a room and brought joy everywhere she went. She loved every single student always! She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Clay and Sarah and all of the family, we are praying for you.
