Steven Furniss Obituary
Steven Furniss, 62, of Clarks Hill died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in his home after a short battle with cancer. He was born October 28, 1953, in Anderson, IN to Arlene Goffina Furniss of Ft. Wayne and the late William Herbert Furniss. Steve graduated from Blackford County High School in 1972 and A.L.B.A.T. Climbing School in Kokomo. On August 25, 1973 he married Mary Lents in Hartford City and she survives. Steve worked for Tipmont REMC since 1991 as a Journeyman Lineman, Foreman, Line Crew Superintendent and was Tipmont's current Safety Director.
He was a member of Traders Point Christian Church in Zionsville and had been an Elder and Deacon at Clarks Hill Christian Church. He had a heart for Christ and enjoyed learning more about his relationship with the Lord. Steve was a humble servant leader who was willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, gardening, family gatherings and feeding peanuts to his silly dog Crosby. Steve had a knack for building anything from a utility pole, especially "The Building" and swingsets for his children.
Surviving along with his wife of 42 years, are his children Wade S. Furniss (Jessica Snider) of Shadeland, Jillian M. Henry (Justin) of Lafayette, Joseph W. Furniss (Jackie) of Lebanon, Laura E. Grimes (Joseph) of Lafayette, grandchildren Gabriel Meiser, Avery Miller, Tristan Henry and Cormac Furniss. Also survivng are: sister Linda Glessner of Ft. Wayne, brothers Dan Furniss (Bev) of Hartford City, Harry Furniss (Karen), John Furniss all of Fl and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be held 3:30 pm Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Interment will be at Meadow View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute to United Way of Greater Lafayette or Right to Life in Steve's memory. You may sign the guest book and leave memories at www.soller-baker.com.

Our condolences to Steve's family. Sorry that I missed the news paper announcement of Steve's passing. It was, however, in the April Electric Consumer.
We kept in touch after my retirement in 1999. He did an electrical safety demo for the 4-H electric workshop kids in 2012. Some photos added. Steve enjoyed doing the safety program.
He will be missed.

Our condolences, Mary. I'm sorry I missed the announcement of Steve's passing. I just read it in the April Electric Consumer.
I retired from Tipmont in 1999, but kept in touch with Steve. He did an electrical safety demo for the 4-H electric workshop kids in 2012 and I provided a tabletop safety demo for him a couple of years ago. He will be missed.

Frankly I am at a loss for words, I would not have thought . . . I just saw Mary which now seems not long ago when it is really been a couple of years and everyone was fine. My condolences to Mary and her family in this time of grief. I am so saddened by all of it. May you find the love and strength to move forward.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Steve was a wonderful man, and will be missed. It's a blessing to know that this man of faith is now free of pain and talking joyfully with Jesus. He was always smiling when I saw him at church, and I imagine the brilliance of his smile increased now as he enters the Lord's house. Such a great man will take a piece of your heart with him, a hole never quite healed. I pray that you all are covered with a sense of peace, knowing that he is healthy and happy .
