Carl Schroeder Obituary

ALTAMONT -- Carl George Schroeder 91 years old of Altamont, passed on to be with his Lord at 11:56 p.m. on Friday evening January 1, 2010 at the Lutheran Care Center, Altamont, Illinois. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday morning January 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altamont, Illinois with the Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be Monday January 4, 2010 at from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Kull Funeral Chapel and again for one hour before the funeral service Tuesday January 5, 2010 at the Church. Military Burial Rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 7676 in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Altamont, Illinois following the funeral service. For those who prefer Memorial Contributions, they may be made to the Lutheran Care Center, 702 West Cumberland Road, and or the Immanuel Parish Hall Building Fund, 203 East Division Street, both of Altamont, Illinois 62411 and or the Donor's Choice. Carl George Schroeder was born October 12, 1918 the son of Edward and Martha Yagow-Schroeder on the family farm, Mound Township, Effingham County near Altamont, Illinois. He married Hilda Marie Beccue on December 1, 1946 in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altamont, Illinois by the Rev. Dr. Martin J. Naumann. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2006. Carl was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Carl honorably served his country in the Army of the United States during World War II receiving three overseas service bars and a silver star. He was acquainted with Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe serving as a small arms weapons mechanic receiving the rank of TEC 4 and received his honorable discharge on November 30, 1945. Carl drove a milk truck for the Litchfield Dairy before owning and operating Schroeder Dairy in Altamont for a number of years. He also owned Karl's Ice Cream Parlor in Salem, Illinois and retired from World Color Press in Effingham, Illinois. In his retirement he was also employed by the Altamont School District as a crossing guard, insuring the children's safety to and from school. In his passing he leaves behind his 4 sons: Ronald (wife, Tamara) Schroeder of Effingham, Illinois, Gary (wife, Pat) Schroeder of Decatur, Illinois, Kevin (wife, Kim) Schroeder of Vandalia, Illinois, Alan (wife, Kaye) Schroeder of Towanda, Illinois; 2 daughters: Rita (husband, Tim) McCollum of Charleston, Illinois, Rhonda Jane Schroeder of Mattoon, Illinois; 2 brothers: Louis "Jim" (wife, Marilyn) Schroeder of DeKalb, Illinois, Arthur Schroeder of Altamont, Illinois; sister-in-law: Lorene Campe-Schroeder of Altamont, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; 4 brothers, Clarence and his wife Marie Schroeder, Albert and his wife Hilma Schroeder, Otto and his wife Mabel Schroeder, Elvin "Butch" Schroeder; 4 sisters: Paula and husband Elmer Schwerdtfeger; Esther Schroeder in infancy, Evelyn Schroeder in her youth, Ella Schroeder at 20 years old; sister-in-law: Hilma Bernahl-Schroeder.

I just found out about your loss. I was able to visit your dad while in Altamont for the last Yagow reunion. My condolences to your family. May you be comforted by your faith in the Lord and by all your memories.
