Donald Porter Obituary

MATTOON - Donald E. "Don" Porter, 77, of Mattoon, passed away at 7:53 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services in tribute to his life will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at the Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Avenue in Mattoon. The Reverend Steve Hayes will officiate, assisted by the Reverend Robert C. Clark. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, southeast of Mattoon. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at funeral home. Don was born August 23, 1934, in Hindsboro, Illinois, a son of Thomas E. and Helen (Clapp) Porter. He married Dianne Goodman on February 19, 1955. Survivors include his loving wife, Dianne Porter of Mattoon; three children, Debra Porter of rural Neoga, Danny Porter and wife Cathy of Mattoon, and Dale Porter of Mattoon; eight grandchildren, Amory, Dustin, Stan, Jeff, Derek, Erika, Rachel, and Jenny; great-grandson, Fisher; sister, Jane Ingram of Arthur, IL; sister-in-law, Merna Porter of Charleston; numerous nieces and nephews; and his favorite cat, Sam. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and one sister. Mr. Porter was the owner and operator of Don's Auto Body in Mattoon since 1972. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Mattoon. Memorial gifts in his honor are suggested to the First Christian Church or Coles County Humane Society.
