George Gullion Obituary

George Gullion

March 16, 1948 - June 9, 2025

George Ralph "Butch" Gullion Jr., 77, of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away on June 9, 2025, in his hometown. Born on March 16, 1948, in Mattoon, Butch spent his life rooted in the community where he was born and raised.

Known affectionately by all as "Butch," he was a man with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. A dedicated gun enthusiast and avid fisherman, Butch found joy and peace in the simple pleasures of life. Whether casting a line or discussing his latest firearm interests, he embraced these passions with enthusiasm and knowledge.

Butch's legacy lives on through his loving family. He is remembered by his son Scott; daughter Stefanie and her husband Tom, who reside in Washington state along with their children Natalie, Matt, and Miles; and stepson Todd, also of Washington, and his daughters India and Peyton. His grandchildren Treighton and Alyssa carry forward his memory, as do Cade and Skyler and their sons Jack and Ace. Butch was also looking forward to the arrival of a great-grandson.

He held close bonds with extended family as well. His niece Kim and her husband Charlie Heldebrandt, niece Samantha and her daughter Aailyah; and nephew Drue with his son Bentley were all dear to him.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his older sister Shelia Bennett; and his younger brother Chris. He is survived by his wife Linda.

May the memory of George Ralph "Butch" Gullion Jr. bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire stories shared among family and friends for years to come. A graveside service will be held on July 9, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Dodge Grove Cemetery, 917 N 22nd St.
