Sandra Chappel, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, at the age of 83.
Born Sandra Sullivan on December 5, 1941 in Trumann, she spent most of her years growing up in Walcott, before moving to Jonesboro. She was an avid reader, enjoying novels of all kinds but put them away in favor of reading only her Bible. She had set out a plan to read it from cover to cover in one year. Each evening ended in prayer with her family, a time that reflected the depth of her love and faith in God. She also loved her Arkansas Razorbacks and would cheer them on no matter where she was. Even if it meant telling her son-in-law to change the channel on his own TV so she could watch the game. He always did it. She worked at Frolic Footwear for 19 years then opened her home to begin an inhome daycare for over 30 years. She helped raise numerous children and helped families all over Northeast Arkansas. They affectionately call her NeeNaw to this day.
Sandra was a devoted member of Temple Baptist Church in Jonesboro. She served joyfully through Vacation Bible School, the church's food pantry, the clothes closet ministry, and sang in the choir. In her later years, when she could no longer go to church, one of her deepest prayers was to walk back into church without a wheelchair or walker-a reflection of her enduring spiritual devotion.
Sandra is survived by her daughters Tonya Chappel and Misty {Brad) George of Jonesboro, AR; son Scott {Cheryl) Chappel of Bauxite, AR; grandchildren Will George of Jonesboro, and Brayden and Laci Chappel, of Bauxite. Brothers Jim {Holly) Sullivan of Paragould and Bill Sullivan of St. Petersburg, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply; and her "adopted" son Raymond Croquer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leon Chappel and her parents Harley and Lurline Sullivan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Gregg-Langford-Bookout Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM at the same location. Burial will take place at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Walcott. Andy Neal, pastor of Temple Baptist Church will officiate.
