JONESBORO - Dr. Joseph Bennett Pierce, M.D., a retired physician and resident of Jonesboro, died unexpectedly Friday, April 29, 2022, at the age of 75.
Joe is survived by his wife, Wanda Pierce, his children John Pierce and Deborah Cook (Jason Cook), grandchildren, Jaden and Bradley Pierce and Jackson and Carson Cook, all of Jonesboro, and his sister, Sherri Luttrell (Andy Luttrell) of Marion.
Joe was born in Pine Bluff on Aug. 22, 1946, to John Bennett and Dorothy Jane Yaney Pierce.
He graduated from Rison High School in 1964 as valedictorian of his class.
On Aug. 30, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Culp. They have been married 53 years. He went on to graduate from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1976.
Prior to finishing his medical degree, he spent several years serving his country in the National Guard. He spent 43 years of his life generously serving the medical community where he lived.
Visitation was held Monday at Emerson Funeral Home. A family-only graveside service was held in McDaniel Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to Mount Carmel Methodist Church or Covenant Kids New Orleans, 611 N. Rampart St., New Orleans, LA 70112.
