Barbara A. Conlin
Barbara A. Conlin died on September 23, 2024, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Stafford Springs, CT. She was born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Everett and Martha Gartrell and grew up in Great Neck, NY. She was a graduate of Allegheny College and The University of Iowa.
She met and married James J. Conlin, her husband of 44 years, when both were teaching at Longmeadow Junior High (now Williams Middle School) in Longmeadow, MA. For 50 years, Barbara made her home in Somers, CT, first, with husband Jim, later, with daughter Kimberly and son Sean, and finally, after Jim's death, on her own. She taught art to students in the Somers Public Schools for over 20 years. When Barbara's professional teaching career ended, she devoted much of her retirement to guidance and care of three grandsons-James Conlin, David Conlin, and Sullivan Quirk.
In addition to her previously mentioned children, grandsons, and friends, Barbara leaves her children's spouses, and three more grandchildren-Joseph, Stephanie, and (Christopher) Michael Burzynski of Somers, CT. She also leaves her sister, Beverly McAloon of Swan's Island, ME, Beverly's husband Tom, and a sister-in-law, Sarah Gartrell of Portland, OR. Barbara rounds out her list of surviving family members with a nephew, three nieces, two grandnieces, and six grandnephews.
Her family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 p.m. at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers. Burial will be held privately.
