David Gavlak Obituary
Born in Mount. Pleasant, Pennsylvania on Dec. 31, 1941, he grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Somers in the 1960s. He worked for Hamilton Standard, then H.P. Hood before starting his own business, Gavlak Enterprises, in the 1970s. David was an active member of the Somers Congregational Church for over 50 years. A loving husband, devoted and caring father and grandfather, he will be missed by so many family and friends.
Besides his wife Lucille, he leaves his three children: Malia Michaud of Somers, Kerry Gavlak and his wife Laura of Somers, and Charissa Holmes and her husband Curt of Ellington; two grandchildren, Cassandra and Colin Holmes; two sisters, Anita Fosbrink and her husband Timothy of Acme, Pennsylvania, and Agnes Sikorski and her husband Roland of Hobart, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, William R. Gavlak and Edward J. Gavlak.
His family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St. Somers. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. directly at Somers Congregational Church, 599 Main St. Somers. Burial will follow in Somers Center Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required in the funeral home and church.

We are so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. He was one of the first people we met when we moved to Somers. He proved to be a wonderful friend. He was always there with a tool to borrow or a resource when help was needed. He frequently plowed our driveway just because he was a friend. We always had a great time with Dave when going out to breakfast or lunch or working on projects at church. Dave was a very generous man volunteering assistance at the 4 Town Fair and delivering water to UCONN. We know he is with Jesus and not hurting anymore
