Ernestine Marie Charbonneau
Ernestine "Erna" Marie (Mountain) Charbonneau, 91, of South Windsor, Connecticut, peacefully departed this life, on Sunday (April 28, 2024), at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her caring and devoted family. Ernestine was the loving wife of 64 years to Andre L. Charbonneau. Born in Dexter, ME, on May 28, 1932, a daughter of the late Paul and Nathalie (Clukey) Mountain, she resided in South Windsor for 60 years. Ernestine was a devoted member of St. Margaret Mary's Church in South Windsor.
When Erna came to CT, she worked at Connecticut Mutual and later worked with her husband as they started their family business, Andre Charbonneau and Sons. She played a pivotal role in the success and growth of the company. She retired at the age of 87; but, remained involved in the day to day.
Erna's greatest joy was Family. She was the heart of her family. She enjoyed travel, gardening and had quite a reputation as a fierce cribbage player. Erna was an accomplished cook, who appreciated good food and loved to entertain. She and Andre opened their home to many of their friends and family for countless parties, cookouts, reunions and holidays, everyone was always welcome. The family home in Vermont was her sanctuary. She loved skiing and snowmobiling with her kids and extended family.
Besides her parents, Erna was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Andre William Charbonneau of South Windsor, CT, two brothers, Coleman Mountain of Berwick, ME and Terrance Mountain of Southwick, MA, her sisters, Marilyn Wilkie of Granby and Barbara Robinson of Zephyrhills, FL.
Along with her loving husband, Andre, Erna is survived by her son Andre K. Charbonneau and his wife, Sandra Charbonneau of South Windsor, Kevin P Charbonneau and his partner Susan Moynihan of South Windsor, and Kevin's twin sister Kimberly M Charbonneau of South Windsor; two adored grandchildren Hillary M Charbonneau and her partner Jake Savona of Manhattan, Ross L. Jalbert and his partner Aubrey Wood of South Windsor. A special thank you to Caitie and Maddie, her physical therapists, she loved their visits and the care they gave her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 2nd at 10 a.m., St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Rd., South Windsor, followed by Christian Burial at Wapping Cemetery, 50 Oakland Rd., South Windsor. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Erna's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

I have so many good memories of Aunt Erna. Her smile, her laugh. She was always a joy to be around. I am so glad she was a part of our family. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and may Perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. So very sorry for your loss Uncle Andy, cousins Andre, Kim & Kevin. Andre I am so sad to read about Erna. As I sit here remember all the good times the family had in Vermont. She was always happy to have use enjoying a family get together and enjoying outselves. Erna was a wonderful person I will always be great full for knowing her. I know it´s hard to accept she is gone but we know she is in heaven sharing her smile and wit with all the souls who are sharing eternal life. May God bless her soul and give give eternal happiness in heaven.
