January 2, 1942 - January 25, 2025
Vietnam War Veteran (USN) 1964-67; Adventurer, Teacher, Vagabond, and Writer. Beloved brother to Yvonne and Craig, devoted husband to Laverne, loving father to Carla, Kyle, and Hillary, doting grandfather to Erin and Rita, and namesake to great-grandson J. L. Rudolph. Vain in appearance yet humble in demeanor hence his lack of want for an obituary. Fortunately, Eric's kids inherited his stubborn rebellious streak and notice of his passing is public. He is stardust now.

The Umlands were neighbors a block away from our house in Lincoln when we were in elementary school. I remember my brother and I walking to Umlands to meet Yvonne, Craig and Eric to walk to Elliot School together. My parents were friends with their parents through PTA.

Eric helped us at the Landing several times with the Stuff the Bus for the Food Bank efforts. Appreciated his volunteer spirit! Enjoyed his company at First Friday Jazz and his sense of humor and thoughtful insights! Laverne and family....May Peace in its most cherished sense enfold you in these days of sorrow. You all did an amazing job of accompanying him on his journey.
