Sarah O'Neill
August 11, 1948 - October 26, 2023
Lawrence - Sarah "Sally" Olsson O'Neill was born on August 11th, 1948, to Donald "Bud" Stewart and Jean Guenzel. After Sally's father passed, she was adopted by John E. Olsson, who raised her with Jean in Lincoln, Nebraska. Sally was a graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and went on to get two graduate degrees. Sally was a teacher and school counselor for 41 years. Sally had an incredibly strong spirit and a larger-than-life personality. Sally believed that by helping others, you could create an infinite web of impact in your community. Sally always had hope. Even after being diagnosed with dementia at 62, Sally kept trucking. She never stopped laughing and she never stopped creating. Sally raised two sons, Stephen and Scott. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Donald "Bud" Olsson, and her son, Scott O'Neill. Sally is survived by her brother, John S. Olsson and his wife, Jody; her sister Elizabeth "Lizzie" Olsson; Sister-in-Law Janeese Olsson; her son Stephen O'Neill and his wife Elizabeth O'Neill; and her grandchildren, Riley, Connor, Kinley (Stephen) and Ella (Scott). Sally was also very involved as an aunt to her nieces and nephews.
Sally passed away on October 26, 2023, at the age of 75. She is at peace, will always be in our memories, and is now in the comfort of her family that went before her.

Sally was a counselor when I taught at LSE. I always loved our talks-- not about the students-- but life in general.

I was fortunate to work with Sally at Lincoln Southeast. Such a kind, caring, creative, and generous woman. Sally´s life was not without challenges but she was always positive and willing to help family, students, colleagues, and friends. Those whose lives she touched are better for it. I hope you are quilting and creating in heaven, Sally, with a doggie by your side.

Sally was a wonderful counselor at Randolph Elementary School when I knew her best. She loved children and always looked out for the emotional needs of students and for staff. She welcomed me when I came to the school as a new teacher and gave me some great encouragement. She was there to help all when we lived thru the terrible 911 events and had to carry on as though it was a normal school day. I am sorry to hear about her health problems later, but her family should know that she was truly an awesome caring person to children at school and her friends. She really loved her sons, and family.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Sarah O´Neil, but I know her son Stephen and consider him a friend. Anyone who can take credit for parenting a such a caring and compassionate person should have felt great about this accomplishment . My families thoughts and prayers go out to all of her family and friends in the loss they are struggling with. The Anderson´s of Western Kansas.
