Stephen K. Sorum

August 11, 1950 - October 7, 2024

Stephen K. Sorum, 74, passed away October 7, 2024 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born on August 11, 1950 in Alliance, Nebraska to Ellen Marie (Powell) Sorum and Keith Sorum. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Dingman) Sorum; daughter, Sarah [Greg] Petner; grandchildren, Jack Stephen Petner and Mia Marie Petner; siblings, Sharon Hitchcock and Carla [Charlie] Dingman; brother-in-law, Dale Kastens; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Bruce Hitchcock; and sister-in-law, Jeanine Kastens.

Steve attended Alliance High School and the University of Nebraska. He retired as the Deputy Director of the Nebraska Ethanol Board where he worked for nearly 40 years during a period of historic evolution in the industry. Steve and Todd Sneller were instrumental in the widespread use of ethanol nationally.

Steve was passionate about family, Nebraska football, and golf with his buddies. His friends and family relished his caring, kindness, inclusiveness, and most importantly his sense of humor. He will be sorely missed.
