Terry Workman

1931 - 2025

Wm. Terry Workman passed away on August 18, 2025. He was born in Watseka, Illinois, on November 24, 1931, to Evelyn (Rosendahl) Workman and Joe Workman. He attended schools in Chicago and Los Angeles and graduated from Onarga Township High School in 1950. He entered the US Navy in 1951 and served in the Sixth Fleet. In 1952, he was assigned to the Marine Corps as a corpsman with the Seventh Marine Regiment in Korea. He was discharged in 1955. He later entered the Naval Reserve, as an officer, and retired as a Captain in 1991.

Terry attended Illinois State University and graduated in 1958. His first teaching assignment was in Oswego, Illinois after completing his master's program at the University of Northern Illinois in 1962. In 1964, Terry became Business Manager for the Racine Unified School District in Racine Wisconsin. There he met his wife, Catherine, and they were married in February 1965. Terry and Catherine had two children, both born in Racine, Philip and Ann. The Workman family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1972, where Terry served as Assistant Superintendent for Lincoln Public Schools in addition to Lancaster County Superintendent. Terry retired from LPS in 1994.

Terry was preceded in death, by his wife, Catherine and is survived by his son, Phil and wife Elaine Torres, grandson, Tristan Workman, daughter Ann Freimuth, granddaughters Emma and Betsy Freimuth. Additionally, his niece and nephews, Tom, Gretchen and Peter Haacker and their families. Also, Marian Calvert, who brought him great happiness and companionship the past 19 years.

Terry was blessed with a loving family and lifelong friends, most who predeceased him, he missed them terribly. His wit, steady and sound advice and general good nature will be missed, Family burial services will be later this year.
