David Krause Obituary

David W. Krause

March 31, 1944 - February 13, 2025

David W. Krause, 80, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Ascension Spring Street Campus.

Born in Racine on March 31, 1944, to Walter and Bernice (nee: Meyers) Krause, Dave was a lifelong resident of the community he loved. He graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in 1962, where he met the love of his life, Sylvia Kums. The high school sweethearts married on June 24, 1967, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, building a life centered around family and friends. He earned his bachelor's degree from Carthage College in 1967 and went on to earn his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1972.

Dave dedicated his career to teaching, coaching, and mentoring at Horlick High School. Over the years, he made a lasting impact on countless students and athletes, coaching basketball, tennis, and football. Under his leadership, the basketball team secured 10 regional championships and made three state appearances. However, Dave's true pride came not from victories but from the relationships he built with his students, players, and fellow coaches. His humility, wisdom, and unwavering support left a legacy far beyond the court and classroom.

In recognition of his contributions to athletics and education, Dave was inducted into the Racine Lutheran High School Hall of Fame in 2022.

Above all, Dave cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, finding immense joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow. His quiet strength, kindness, and dedication to those he loved will be deeply missed.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia; daughter and son-in-law, Tamara (John) Marini of Racine, WI; sons and daughters-in-law, Brett (Nicole) of North Easton, MA, and Shane (Mandy) Krause of Round Rock, TX; and grandchildren, Sophia and Fiona Marini of Racine, WI, Caden and Sawyer Krause of North Easton, MA, Madeline, Reese, and Mitchell Krause of Round Rock, TX. He is also survived by his niece, Keri (Kelly) Johnson; sister-in-law, Marie Rumage; and many other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ken Krause.

Private family services were held, with interment at West Lawn Memorial Park. In honor of Dave's memory, memorial contributions to Breakthrough T1D for type 1 diabetes research and support are appreciated (www.breakthrought1d.org).

Dave's legacy of kindness, humility, and dedication will live on in the many lives he touched.

Brett-
So sorry for your loss. I remember our AAU trips with your dad and my dad driving and all the times your dad would let me into Horlick to get a workout with you and Joel Burns. He was such a supportive person and I was lucky to have been around him. Thoughts are with you and your family.
