Evelyn Anna Cernak

KENOSHA - Evelyn Anna Cernak, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 3, 2005, at her residence. Born in Joliet, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Mathilda Wilhelmina Sophie (nee: Birkholz) and Ernest Robert Kohn. On April 4, 1942 Evelyn married Stanley John Cernak at St. John's Lutheran Church in Necedah. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2002. Evelyn attended schools in Necedah and was a graduate of the College of Beauty in Madison. She came to Kenosha in 1941. She owned and operated several beauty shops throughout the years including the Wauwatosa Beauty Shop, Madonna Beauty Shop, Cut n' Curl and Vi Christensen's. At the time of her death Evelyn still retained her active manager's license. She was a Charter Member of Holy Nativity Lutheran Church and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Evelyn and her husband Stanley were Charter Members of the Orchestra Boosters Club and were instrumental in bringing Carthage College to Kenosha. They also served their Churches as active members of the choirs. Evelyn was active with the Snap On Recreation Club and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Dr. Cynthia Rae Cernak of Kenosha and Cheryl Lee Meyers of Kodak, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Melissa L. (Gregory) Thomas, Heather R. Devan, James Stanley Meyers, and Chadwick T. Meyers; and four sisters, Florence Stauber, Hazel Russel, Edna Stauber and Mildred Rogers. Evelyn is also survived by her two dear friends, Vickie Stehlik and Barbara J. Sikorsky. She was preceded in death by her husband and five brothers. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at 5:00 p.m., at Holy Nativity Lutheran Church, 2313 17th Avenue, Kenosha. Interment will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at 9:00 a.m. at Green Ridge Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the Church on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
