Glenn Bacon Obituary

VERNON HILLS, ILL. - Glenn A. Bacon, Sr. MD, 86, formerly of Racine, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at his home. He was born January 11, 1921, in Oak Park, Ill. and had recently moved to Vernon Hills, Ill. He was a graduate of the University of Chicago and received his degree in medicine from Northwestern School of Medicine. Dr. Bacon served as Captain in Korea with the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1948. Dr. Bacon served his residency in Psychiatry at VAMC North Chicago, Ill. from 1949 until 1953. In 1953, he was board certified in Psychiatry and was the first Psychiatrist in Racine. Following that, he operated the Bacon Clinic, Ltd. of Racine from 1953 until 1985. From 1985 until 1987, Dr. Bacon was staff Psychiatrist at Tropical Texas Mental Health/Mental Retardation Hospital in Edinburg, Texas. He was chief of staff at St. Luke's Hospital Racine, 1961 until 1963, Clinical Director/ Chief of Staff at Texas Department of Mental Health/ Mental Retardation, Rio Grande State Center from 1987 until 1991. Dr. Bacon retired in 1994. He is survived by his wife, Isabell (nee:Wilson), of 23 years of marriage; his children, Marsha (Sam) Havens of Ariz., Linda Hopkins of Pa., Sandra Bacon of Lake Bluff, Ill., Glenn A. (Krys) Bacon, Jr. of Lake Bluff, Ill., and April Bacon of Skokie, Ill.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Vivian (Howard) Bonner of Tenn.; and his beloved dog, Lobo. Private funeral services were from McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place Libertyville, Ill. Interment with full military honors will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations made to St. Francis Animal Shelter, 12300 116th Street, Kenosha, WI 53140, would be greatly appreciated. I wirked with Dr. BACON for a few years at Rio Grande State Center. He was a wonderful man, Heart of Gold. He was a good friend. Made you smile, no matter what. He will always be remembered. He is finally at home in heaven. God has a great Dr. Up there.

I WORKED WITH DR. BACON AT THE RGSC. HE WAS AN ISLAND OASIS OF INTELLENT AND HUMOUR IN A SEA OF THE CLUELESS MASSES. I SO ENJOYED DISCUSSING DIAGNOSES, MEDICATIONS, HISTORY, BOOKS, CURRENT EVENTS, ARTIFACTS, WORLD NEWS.....WE BECAME FOND OF EACH OTHER, AND I WILL NEVER FORGET HIM OR THE BRIGHT TWINKLE IN HIS EYES.
