Dear Rogan Family,
You do not know me personally- in fact I only know of your son because of one
divinely placed restaurant sign that read, "Where praying for you Matt Rogan". As I was driving to work I passed that sign and
felt compelled to pray. As I prayed I wept- and I could not get Matt off my
mind. Later I just had this overwhelming need to find out who Matt was- so I
googled him and learned of his untimely passing. I was further struck by the
fact that Matt died in the same way, and on the same holiday weekend as my best
friend who passed 9 years ago. Needless to say, I do not think this was random.
In fact I believe strongly that God lead me to that sign and ultimately to your
family. Please know that I do not make it a habit doing this sort of thing. But
i believe God wants you to know a few things:
He wants you to know Jesus loves you. He wants you to know that He has a
purpose for everything we encounter -even this- even this awful, unbearable,
painful time. This doesn't mean you will ever fully understand this
circumstance in this life but you can trust the goodness of God's heart.
Seek Him as you wrestle through your grief (psalm 73:26&28)
Know He has a perfect plan for your life and for Matt's life (psalm 139:16)
He really loves you and weeps with you.

Matt was a student of mine at Mundelein High School and I am deeply saddened by his passing. Matt made the class memorable with his one-of-a-kind personality—jokes and laughter were always in abundance. Students like Matt are the reasons why teachers enter the profession; they have the courage to pursue what they love to do and make the world a better place while doing so. Matt brought the best out of those around him, and is an example to us all.
