Homer Bliss Obituary

Bliss, Homer Age 89, of Sturgeon Bay, passed peacefully away at his home on Wednesday evening (January 20, 2010) with his dear friends at his side. He was born November 17, 1920 in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, the son of the late Fred and Isabelle (Logue) Bliss. Homer graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1939. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942 until 1945. Homer continued his service for 18 years in the Army Reserves attaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He attended Madison Business College. After his service in WWII he worked in Milwaukee for 9 years with the Veterans Administration. In 1950 he started his employment with Wisconsin Motor, later Teledyne Corporation, retiring in 1985 as a sales and Marketing executive for the U.S. and Canada. Homer worked as a consultant for the company for two years following his retirement. During this time he lived in Shorewood. In 1959 he bought a vacation cottage in Door County and permanently relocated to Sturgeon Bay area in 2001. He was actively involved in many organizations throughout his life. Most recently, he was involved with the Door County Land Trust, the Bayshore Property Owners Association, the Peninsula Music Festival and the Peninsula Players. He was always willing to share his knowledge and experiences related to investing, marketing and even politics with these organizations and his friends. He will be deeply missed by his dear friends, Todd Trimberger and Dr. Kelton Reitz of Sturgeon Bay; Joan Maynard of Green Bay, his cousins; nieces and a nephew; and many, many, many treasured friends. To know Homer, was to love Homer. His friends, old and new, were in many ways his family. He was a successful, self taught investor, avid traveler and theater lover. His greatest passion and enjoyment came from spending time with his friends. It didn't matter if it was a big party, a quiet afternoon by the fireplace or the many sunny afternoons, sunsets and starry nights with his friends out on the deck. He was a majestic, peaceful and truly "blissful" man. You could not find a better role model and true friend if you tried. He lived life to the fullest, even flying to Palm Springs, CA this past September and taught by example until the very end by passing gracefully and peacefully at the cottage with Todd, Kelton and his dog Jordan at his side. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Harry and Merle; two sisters, Bernice Frederickson, and Anna Mae Bliss. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, (January 28, 2010) at Huehns Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Huehns Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's - St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mineral Point on Saturday, (January 30, 2010) at 10:30 AM with Fr. James Hinnen as celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 10:30 AM. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who were closet to Homer. It has been a few years since I have been able to visit with Homer, but all of my memories of him were good conservation about travel--to europe and elsewhere. He seemed to be the only one in the family that really could understand the experience of travel as I saw it. He will be missed. From my wife Sonia, children; Lenora, Isaac, and Adam; and me the eldest grandson of Merle and Eileen
