John Germanotta Obituary

Germanotta, John David Our brilliant, kind, generous, witty John David left this earth on April 7, 2019, at 46 years of age. He was an Honor graduate of Whitefish Bay High School and an exciting player on its championship baseball team who went on to graduate Duke University with Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa Honors. He enthusiastically enjoyed Duke Basketball and the Brewers. John was an extraordinary son, brother, Grandson, uncle and nephew. He used his tremendous intelligence in thoughtful, kind and humble ways and with sharp wit. He will be interred with his Nanna - a fitting tribute to their special close relationship. Special thanks to his students and colleagues at Riverside High School and friends and co-workers at Tapco Co. who allowed him to use his beloved writing ability. He cherished you all. John's now resting, rooting for his Brewers and watching with great pride the accomplishments of his nieces Linden and Heidi and special nephew Jayden. He loved them so much and long ago established college funds for each of them. He is survived by his beloved mother, Mary Ellen Germanotta, father, John (Giovanna) Germanotta, sisters Katie (Brad) Boycks, Margaret Germanotta (Courtney) many aunts, uncles and cousins in the United States and Italy, and many friends. Visitation will occur at Three Holy Women Parish-Holy Rosary Church, 2011 N. Oakland Avenue, from 3-6 p.m. on May 3rd with Service to follow at 6:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations in John's name to the Brewers Buddies program of the Brewers Community Foundation, Miller Park, One Brewers Way, Milwaukee, WI, 53214 or the Rogers Behavioral Health Foundation, 34700 Valley Road, Oconomowoc, WI, 53066, would be appreciated.

A group of us college friends of John (always very affectionately known as Germ back then) just learned through social media that he is no longer with us. We have no words for this loss - in college, finding the right words would have been Germ's natural job, and he would make us laugh and think (and then laugh again) with them. Even though all of us went our separate ways, every NCAA tournament would unite us again, at least virtually, and John's passion was an undeniable force behind it. As for me, I'll miss talking to John about baseball and about baseball as metaphor (inside joke). And most importantly, I wish his family peace, and offer humble thanks for giving me and our friends the chance to know a remarkable and unforgettable soul.

I didn't know John well in high school but I remember him as a kind soul. I think his final gift to us was bringing our classmates back together and allowing us to renew friendships that had been lost over time. For that I will always be grateful to him.

My prayers and deep condolences for the family of John Germanotta. I knew him while working at Riverside University High Schoo as librarian.
I cannot believe that he is no longer with us.
I will remember him fondly. I am sorry for your loss.
He used to frequent the library regularly. He was such a kind and welcoming person, easy to speak with, and a pleasure to know. He cared so much for his students and was so dedicated to being the best teacher he could be. I will not forget him.
with prayers...

I was shocked and sad to hear about John. While I have not seen him in a long time I considered him a friend and I have lots of fun memories of him. His smile is one thing that really sticks in my memories and brings me a smile when I think of it. Also, his sense of humor. He was always able to make me laugh. He was so bright and my memories of him are full of wit. I can't imagine what you all are going through. I only hope my thoughts and support could help more. I hope this note lets you know that John meant something to me, that I will miss him, and that I am thinking about you all in these sad days.
