John Jacobus Obituary

Jacobus, John Thomas Jr. John Thomas Jacobus Jr. of Rocky River, Ohio, passed away on March 5, 2007, at the age of 47. The cause of death was heart failure. Born on June 29, 1959, John spent his adolescent years with his family in Elm Grove, Wisconsin until after his graduation from Marquette High School, Milwaukee in 1977. John attended Miami University of Ohio in Oxford where he studied business administration and finance and became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. John graduated from Miami University in 1981 with a BA in Finance and began his life-long banking career with Harris Bank in Chicago. Most recently John served as Vice-President of Cash Management for US Bank in Cleveland. Returning to Ohio to continue his career with Morgan Stanley in Cleveland, John met his wife Barbara Wester of Grand Haven, Michigan. John and Barbara married on June 10, 2000 and they made their home in Rocky River, Ohio. John attended Bay Presbyterian Church where many of the ministries were important to him. John was a founding board member of Community Service Alliance and a former board member of Our Lady of the Wayside. As a banker, he enjoyed following the financial markets and had an insatiable interest in learning. Outside of work, his many friends shared his enthusiasm for golf, tennis, skiing and many other outdoor activities. Travel was a passion he shared with his wife, friends and family. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his loving family: his parents, Jack and Sue Jacobus of Elm Grove, Wisconsin and his mother in-law Virginia Wester of Grand Haven MI; his brother and wife, Steve Jacobus (Maggie) of Nosara, Costa Rica; his sisters and their husbands Julie Eiselt (Tom) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jennifer Corona (Paul) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. John will also be remembered by his nieces and nephews, who knew him for his easy laughter and love of all things kids (like water parks, roller coasters, board and card games), Jack, Joseph and Katharine Eiselt, Ryan, Michael and William Jacobus, Elizabeth and Margaret Corona and Craig, Thomas, Sarah and John Morford. A service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Bay Presbyterian Church in Bay Village, Ohio. A viewing will be offered for friends and family from 9:00-11:00AM prior to the service at Bay Presbyterian Church. A private family interment ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 17 at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Elm Grove, WI. Blessed with a gift for conversation and for listening to others, John opened his heart to all and offered his love unconditionally. He was loved by so many people for his kind, gentle and compassionate spirit, who now share in grieving John's passing. Our sadness runs deep; we all miss him dearly, yet we gain comfort in the knowledge that John is at peace in the arms of the Lord. We are deeply grateful for our family and for our friends who have extended their love and heartfelt sympathies to us. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in John's name to Community Service Alliance, 4001 Trent Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44109. Not sure what to say?

David & Nell Herzer

Sue & Jack;
"Nothing is worse than the loss of a child" is frequently heard and I'm certain it is sadly true. Such fond memories I have of John's mischievious smile and delighful presense at family gatherings.
His loss reminds us of the fragileness of life and the thanks we need to remember to give the Lord each day for the gifts of love and tenderness we too often take for granted.
I know you both will find strength to deal with this loss and be assured Nell & I join the many others who will pray to ease this transition for you.
