Joseph "Joe" Rody Jr.

Joseph Rody Obituary

Died August 6, 2005, age 86 of lung cancer. Beloved husband of Geri (nee Snopek) for 63 years. Preceded in death by his daughter Dorry Ann Leonhard, parents Joseph Sr. and Katherine, siblings George, John, Victor and Lilly Ondrejka. Loving father of Dennis (Joyce), grandfather of Stacy (Jim) Ellis, Brian Rody and Rachel Leonhard, great grandfather of Kevin Ellis and Tyler Ellis. Further survived by other relatives and many dear friends.

Joe was a 1938 graduate of West Allis Central High School. He prided himself in being a mechanic and machinist and started CPR Tool Works in the early 1940's. Joe owned and operated the auto dealership Greenfield Motors in West Allis from 1948 to 1990 and was the first Jeep dealer in the U.S. to sell 1,000 Jeeps.

Joe devoted much of his life to "making a more humanitarian world." He was very active in many world peace, social justice and progressive political organizations and causes and was known for his fearless, outspoken and passionate approach to issues. In 2001 Joe received the "Lifelong Commitment to Justice Award" from the ACHOICE organization in appreciation for his lifetime of commitment to peace and justice in Milwaukee. He volunteered many hours at Fratney School helping children improve reading skills. At age 81 he competed and won an award swimming in the Senior Olympics. He traveled to the Soviet Union, Germany, Cuba, Mexico and at age 85 Venezuela to promote peace and better understanding between countries.

With respect for Joe's wishes no funeral or memorial service will be held. Instead, Joe requested people take action through speaking out and giving their time and money to the causes and organizations he believed in supporting. Call Den at

The family would also like to express gratitude to the health care workers, especially Dr. LuAnn Moraski and Dr. Marta Muller, for their compassionate service and kindness.
