Dear Suzy,
I will never forget you and Lee at a costume party in Springfield dressed as Dolly Parton (you) and the Goodyear Blimp (Lee). He was a rookie reporter's dream and the kind of character you just don't see in newsrooms anymore. It was a privilege to know him as a colleague at the SJ-R. My sincerest sympathies to you and your family.

Suzy,
So sorry to hear about Lee's difficult illness and passing. At the Journal-Register in Springfield, he showed me the ropes on the courthouse beat. And I still remember some of the fun photos we took in the newsroom at his instigation. He had many interests, and I hope your memories of him enjoying life will give you comfort at this sad time.

Dear Suzy, Laurel & Heather,
We were so sorry to hear of Lee's passing. We're glad we got to visit with him one last time. We have so many fond memories of great dinners and even better conversations! His greatest gift to us was sharing his insatiable curiosity about everything. He introduced us to new places, new cuisines, new books, new gadgets. He will be greatly missed.

I am an old friend of Lee's, having gone to elementary and high school with him and grown up with his family (our mother's were best friends.) My brother Bill told me of Lee's passing and I was sorry to hear of your loss. Please know that his childhood friends are also grieving with you. Lee’s quiet excellence and wry sense of humor was a blessing to have in the old Milwaukee Sentinel newsroom. When my right hand was in a cast for a few weeks he made a point of stopping by my desk just for the chance to say “Hey Lefty!” Something tells me he’s stirring the pot in heaven right now.

My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. I am a friend from Middletown, NY high school. Lee played the sousaphone in the high school band with me. We shared many good times together in the world of high school music. It is sad that time and miles make old friendships distant memories, until you read of an old friends passing. God be with you.

My sympathies to the family. As a "rookie" police officer starting out in the 70's, I got to know Lee when he worked at the SJ-R in Springfield, IL. He had the reputation as a fair, honest, and trustworthy reporter, whose word was his bond.

Please accept our heartfelt sympathy. Lee first worked with me on the Sentinel State Desk where his knowledge of the state and his efficiency on the phone in getting stories was unmatched. He was always jovial and a joy to have around, providing good will with an elf-like spunk such as when each year he would light a "Gordon Gottlieb memorial cigar" and the odor would bring immediate attention to state desk.
We will all miss Lee and look forward to seeing him again upstairs.

Dear Suzy, As a member (and former coordinator) of the Mensa Gourmet Group, I dined
with you and Lee every other month for years. We could always
depend on Lee for good food advice and interesting recipes. But the place he
REALLY shined was at the table: clever, witty, smart, and approachable. It
was a pleasure to be seated with him and share his enthusiasm for charming
conversation and exquisite food. He was truly an asset to the group and a

To Lee's family,
Lee was a wonderful man. I had the opportunity of working my dream job - State Desk - when he switched to being SAGE at the Sentinel. He taught me well! He had a great sense of humor, was talented and a great person. My heart goes out to you all. His loss has to be so difficult.
