Martha McFeeley Obituary

McFeeley, Martha E. In her 92 years, Martha was mother, wife, student, teacher, caregiver, friend and artist. She died Saturday, January 26, 2013, in Madison, WI. Martha had recently moved to Madison from Menomonee Falls where she had lived since retirement. Born in 1920, she grew up in Cleveland, OH the middle daughter of teaching parents. Martha graduated from Otterbein College in Westerville, OH where she met her husband, Robert G. McFeeley. They married after Robert returned from his military duties in 1947 and moved to Milwaukee where they raised three children, Marybeth, Kathleen and Michael. Following her husband's death, Martha returned to school at Mount Mary College and obtained a teaching degree. She then taught in the Milwaukee Public School system until retirement at age 62. Family, church and art were important parts of Martha's life. Early pen and ink drawing expanded to oil painting and eventually water color. She continued to take art classes for enrichment and for the related friendships. She was a talented artist; friends and family looked forward to her annual Christmas cards which were always illustrated with an original painting. Central to her life was her involvement in church activities. She enjoyed Bible classes, book club (Books Between Bites), music, rummage sales and Sunday services. Martha was happy to be able to donate her watercolor paintings to her church for fundraising events. She fully embraced life physically, mentally and spiritually. She was a long-time member of the local YMCA. She kept very fit by regularly attending exercise and swimming classes at the "Y", usually ones designated for persons younger than her. Typical of her "all in" approach to life, Martha expanded her commitment to the local YMCA by becoming a member of the supervisory board for a number of years. Martha will be remembered by her family and her many friends as strong, witty and fiercely independent. She was a good, trusted friend and mother. Besides her children, Martha's family included sons-in law David R. Kinyon and John R. Bowman, grandchildren Sean K. McFeeley and Meghan K. Kubie and three great - grandchildren, Gabriel, Nathan and Willow Kubie. Included in her family later in life was her partner, the late Harvey Holm. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 31, from 12:30PM until time of Memorial Service at 1PM at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, N84 W16707 Menomonee Ave., Menomonee Falls. Donations in Martha's name may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Menomonee Falls or the Menomonee Falls YMCA.
