Peter Bausch Obituary

Bausch, Peter Joseph Of Elm Grove, Wisconsin, born to Eternal Life on August 9, 2014, at the age of 37. Beloved husband to Kerry. Doting father to Benjamin and Andrew. Loyal son of Thomas and Bernadine. Brother of John, Mary (Joe), Ann (Tom), Christopher (Paula), Elizabeth (Ed), Martha (Bill) and Thomas (Molly). Son-in-law to Richard and Charlene McKenna, brother-in-law to Lee (Michael) and Michael (Michelle). Peter was a committed family man, an accomplished sportsman, a true friend and a distinguished professional. In all things he was pure of heart. Peter's greatest joy was his family. He loved and cherished his wife Kerry. Whether they were on one of many great adventures across the country or hosting a backyard cookout they took great pleasure in each other's company. Peter was never so happy or proud as in his role as a father to Ben and Andrew. He excelled - if his children did it, he did it too. He was an exceptional role model and loved to harness his boys' boundless energy into productive activities filled with laughter, sweat and imaginary championships. His love of family extended to his many nieces and nephews of all ages for whom he always had a smile, a joke and the energy to organize one of countless backyard sporting events that came complete with a national anthem. He coached, he cheered and he was there. Peter was a true sportsman and loved the outdoors. He lived out of a tent in Colorado for months and hiked numerous beautiful spots from the Appalachian Trail to Yosemite National Park. He was an accomplished skier and cyclist who put the miles in at every opportunity. Peter raced in the Birkebeiner on several occasions and regularly competed in road and mountain bike races throughout the Midwest. He was a competitor in the truest sense of the word, constantly endeavoring to improve his own personal performance above all else. Peter's commitment to improvement and accomplishment extended to his academic and professional career as well. He completed an undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University and law degree from Marquette University, both with honors. Between his undergraduate studies and law school Peter volunteered for a year as a teacher at Marquette University High School. He achieved great success during his distinguished legal career which began at Boyle Fredrickson in Milwaukee after which he served as Technology Licensing Counsel at Micron Technologies in Boise. Most recently Peter had served as Patent & Technology General Counsel at S.C. Johnson. His career gave Peter the chance to travel to Asia, Europe and Australia fulfilling a desire to see the world that began with a semester in Spain during college. Throughout all of his stops from his childhood in Wisconsin, to his studies in St. Louis and his family's time in Boise, Peter was a true friend to many. When he made a friend he made a lifelong friend. He shared phenomenal adventures with all of them and was the consummate "goodtimer", always ready to have fun and laugh. As a son, a husband, a father, a brother, a son-in-law, a brother-in-law and a friend he will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, August 14 from 3 to 7 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish, Wauwatosa (7474 Harwood Ave.) on Friday, August 15 at 11 AM. Private family graveside services at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Peter Bausch Educational Fund.

I was fortunate to have played soccer with Peter in Tosa. It was always nice to have someone in the middle defense who looked like he drove his own car to the U12 games...intimidation works wonders. There's never a perfect thing to say when someone leaves earlier than expected but it sounds like his sons couldn't have a better dad/teacher/buddy in their lives.

Dear Peters family and friends,
I met Peter when he was about 16 - full of fun and life. As stated by our son - Mills...Peter was like a brother to him. If anyone has had a friend that is truly like a brother/sister... they can understand the loss. These friendships are so rare and truly a blessing to be cherished.
I hope that time and His constant presence will help Peter's family through this great loss.
My thoughts and prayers are with Peter's family and friends.
My deepest sympathy,
Jan Miller

Bausch Family,
I am so shocked and sorry about the loss of Peter . He was such pleasure to work with, always taking the time to explain and teach...then patiently teach again when we didnt get it the first time. He was so intelligent, yet humble. He treated everyone equally and I think anyone who regularly worked with him would call him “friend”.
I enjoyed sharing family stories , strategies on how to perfectly smoke a piece of meat, or impractical craigslist finds that we knew our wives would not approve. His dry and witty sense of humor and his mentorship is something I will miss. My family will be praying for yours.

Bausch's and McKenna's:
Would like to say what an honor and pleasure it has been to know and grow up with Peter. He was not only a great friend that I could trust and confide in, but he was also a role model to me....smart, modest, honest....yet funny, competitive and witty. He liked Bird, I liked Jordan....he likes Man U., I like Liverpool, etc....but always in good fun. From the St. Bernards basketball days, through our exciting high schooldays, visiting him down in St. Louis over New Years eve with the boys, and into adulthood where we have our young families and it was hard to find time to get together. I will cherish all those times, including about a month ago when we were able to get in a 40 mile ride on a Saturday morning...very thankful that we were able to make that happen. He is my oldest boy Brady's godfather, and was like a brother to me. Thank you Peter for all the great times....you, Kerry, Ben, Andrew and the entire Bausch clan are in my prayers and thoughts always, and know that we carry you with us at all times. You painted a wonderful Masterpiece.....I know I missed a lot of great times like his bachelor party in Colorado, the great music and concerts we shared, but we will be talking about those for a long time!
Peace and love always,
Mills

To the Bausch family. My deepest condolences for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Peter. He often talked about his family and you could tell how much he loved his wife and kids. I admired his sense of balance of the priorities of home and work. He was a calm and patient individual. Where there was frustration, he looked at ways to move past this frustration and get to a solution. One of our peers put it best – “It was impossible not to like Peter and appreciate him for this kind and thoughtful manner and his quick smile and wit.” Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We hadn't been in touch since high school, many years ago, but I have several lasting memories of Peter--German class and retreat antics among them. I remember him most as one of the nicest guys in our class, just always kind to everyone. As a new father and cyclist, this is especially heartbreaking news. Will keep Peter, his family and friends in my thoughts.

Dear Bausch Family:

Pete was more then a friend, but also a role model for all his peers. His quiet dignity, integrity, and modesty was unsurpassed. From spending hours with him at Wirth Park trying to teach him, (well over 6 feet tall), how to drive his VW Bug's manual transmission, partnering with him to lead a MUHS Freshman retreat, and later even buying my first house from him, he was always optimistic, caring, never frustrated, and always a friend first. These tails could and will go on forever, as will Pete's memory. He will be truly and sorely missed by all, especially me, for every time I met Pete I left a better person because of him.

Love,
Jim

To the Bausch family, I am shocked and saddened to hear of Peter's passing. Our Procurement team has worked directly with Peter for a number of years. He will be sorely missed as a good friend and colleague by all of us.
It was a pleasure to work with Peter – he was a man of high standards and principles who raised the ideals and performance of everyone he worked with. The greatest loss, however, will be the loss of Peter my friend. Peter was an inspiration to me – his great love of life, adventure, and sense of humor were always there, and were especially valuable to me during some recent difficult times.
Our hearts are heavy with sadness with this news. We send our prayers and thoughts to you today.
