Robert Allen Obituary

Allen, Robert James Robert James Allen of Milwaukee (Greenfield) passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Harbor Village Senior Assisted Living in Greendale. Having lived there for nearly two years he was currently in hospice care. He left on his Heavenly Journey, with his wife Marguerite and some dear friends at his side. Robert "Bob" Allen was born on August 8, 1922. His parents were Dr. Sylvester and Mercy (Rockwood) Allen of Waterloo, WI. He graduated from Waterloo High School in 1941, where his agility won him a place on the cheerleading squad. He then attended Wayland Academy, in Beaver Dam, WI, (at that time a two year college). During World War II, he served in the Navy on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific arena. On Oct. 16, 1943, he married his high school sweetheart, Marguerite Lorraine Boock, of Waterloo. They lived in several apartments before moving to their beautiful home in Brown Deer. They then moved to a lovely condo in Tuckaway, in Greenfield, where they lived until moving to Harbour Village. Bob worked at several jobs, retiring after working as Director of Milwaukee Courthouse information. The job suited him well as he was a "People Person" and became friends with everyone he met. Bob and Marguerite had no children, but many loving friends and relatives. They were each others best friend, enjoying traveling together to Australia, Europe, New Zealand and other countries. They were avid Badger fans and went to local games as well as several Rose bowls. They were loyal Packer fans, as well. They enjoyed concerts and plays and the circus when in Milwaukee or Baraboo. On one of these occasions Bob met Ernest Borgnine. He loved to collect posters of all types. He loved African violets and was an expert at growing them. He appreciated music, especially of the Big Band era. He enjoyed family gatherings and loved his church and singing in the choir. Bob was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church. He was a tireless volunteer, always ready to lend a hand. Over the years, he took part in various community activities and organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in -law Oscar and Cora (Gustman) Boock; his brothers-in-law Robert and Ozzie Boock; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Boock. Also preceding him were his niece Susan Boock Ketelsen and her husband Dan. He is survived by his loving wife Marguerite, his sister-in-law Amy (Bischoff) Boock; his nieces and nephews and their families Barbara Boock Kelly (Tom), Green Bay; Patricia Boock, Milwaukee; Margaret Boock, Savannah, GA; Robert F. Boock, Jr. (Rafat) and their daughter Kaylyn; Raymond Boock (Diane) and their sons, Chris (Erin) and their family, and Ray and Diane's other sons, Nicholas and Jeff, Columbus, Ohio; Paula Boock Bernbaum (Peter), New Smyrna Beach, FL and Kenneth Boock (Lisa) and son Graydon, Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandnephew Kyle Ketelsen, son of Susan Boock Ketelsen, (Cassie) and their daughter Alana Lyn, Green Bay. There are also two step grand nephews and one step grandniece, and their families all in the Madison area. On Friday, January 27, an interment service for the family will be held at 2 PM, at the Wisconsin Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 PM at the Christ United Methodist Church, 5200 South 48th Street, Greenfield, followed by the Memorial Service at 5 PM. Refreshments will be served after the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Christ United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank all who helped Bob along the way. He will always be remembered for his cheerful nature and his love of people. We love you Bob. You are not gone just gone on ahead.

Marguerite - I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Bob. My memories of both Bob and you were visiting my mother Mabel Gaffney in Waterloo, Wisconsin as I was growing up. Bob was such a delightful person to be around! I know that I'm a better person for knowing him. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

We enjoyed taking Bob and Marguerite to the Milwaukee Museum of Art summer before last. Bob was so spry and rode in the front of the motorhome to navigate. He knew every road and exit. Ate a wonderful dinner together. Bob and my mother Gloria Houghton were cousins. Mercy Allen's brother, Ellsworth Rockwood is my grandfather. We will miss Bob. Our love to Marguerite.
