Melody Mynatt Obituary

Mynatt, Melody "Mel" A. (Shugart) Mel Mynatt, 57, passed away at her home in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Mel's many friends and family are invited to celebrate her life at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017, at the Bartlett Arboretum, 301 N. Line St., Belle Plaine, Kansas, 67013. Guests are encouraged to dress casually, arrive early and to tour the gardens and share memories following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a gift in Melody's name to the Bartlett Arboretum or the Kansas Humane Society. Mel was born on April 26, 1960 in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from North High School in 1977. Early in her career, Mel worked for Kansas State Bank & Trust. She joined Craghead & Harrold Advertising as a bookkeeper in 1990 and later was promoted to Account Executive. In 2004 she joined Howerton+White as Account Executive and Brand Manager, where she worked until her passing. On April 15, 1995, Mel married the love of her life, Ed Mynatt, who survives her. There weren't enough years to celebrate the love and laughter they shared and her presence will be forever missed. Mel was preceded in death by her sister, Debbie Shugart; her mother, Bernice (Mann) Shugart; and her father, Robert Shugart, Sr. She is survived by her brother, Robert Shugart, Jr. and his wife, Patty; nieces, Shelby Shugart and Morgan Shugart; nephew, Cody Shugart and wife, Diedra; sister-in-law, LaDona Cooley and husband, Mike; nieces, Samantha Kirk and husband, Colton, Shelby Piburn, and Marilyn Cooley; brother-in-law, David Mynatt; nieces, Haley Mynatt and Miranda Mynatt; and nephew, David Mynatt. Mel is remembered with extraordinary fondness by all those who knew her, including her many and diverse friends, co-workers, and dozens of clients and vendors. Mel was a celebrated Master Gardener, artist, talented decorator, and passionate animal lover who rescued Rhodesian Ridgebacks and cared lovingly for a menagerie of pets in her home. Mel was a true gift to all who knew her, filling many hearts with her love, hugs, smile and light.

Our hearts go out to you Ed & family. Mel will always be remembered, especially when we see flowers grow, or when a dog or cat crosses our path that we can't turn away, or we find an antique that we can't do without. Mel created beautiful memories for us all.
