David Bywaters Obituary

The son of David W. and Faneta S. Bywaters, Dave lived most of his life in the Kansas City metro area. He attended Northeast High School ('49) and Yale University ('53) and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He married Ann Kuraner in 1953 and Barbara Brown Weber in 1991.

Dave was proud of the contributions he made through his working career which started with the Gas Service Co. The bulk of his career was dedicated to management consulting, spanning 60 years, primarily with Lawrence-Leiter & Co. where he served as president for 25 years. His memberships in professional organizations included the Institute of Management Consultants as a founding member and the Association of Management Consulting Firms.

Dave made significant contributions to the community by serving as a Board Member and often Chairman. His longest tenures were Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City (22 years), DH Pace (25 years) and YMCA of Greater K.C.(over 30 years). Other notable civic commitments included the YMCA Foundation, John Knox Village, Mid-Continent Council of Girl Scouts, Learning Exchange, Center for Management Assistance, Visible Horizons, and Civil Service Board of Johnson County.

He enjoyed tennis, sailing, water skiing, and long walks outdoors. Summers at Lake Pomme de Terre with family and friends created special memories for all who joined him.

Dave is survived by his wife Barbara, his four children, Diane Landon (Houston, TX), David A. Bywaters (Chicago, IL), Deena Schaffer (Leawood, KS), Doris Rice (Redmond, OR), two step-children Lynn Woolf (Leawood, KS) and Jane Mack (Olathe, KS), plus 11 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He will be remembered as he saw himself - as a logical thinker, goal-oriented, not easily intimidated, passionate about politics and living his life according to his values. The family is planning a private celebration of life.

To honor Dave, a long time Rotarian and Libertarian, donations to those organizations or a charity of your choice would be welcome.
