DOLORES ALICIA (SOWARD) CORBETT Dolores Alicia Corbett, 94, died peacefully August 26, 2017, in Topeka, KS. She was born April 27, 1923, in Carrollton, MO, to Olaf Selby Soward and Faye Strong. She attended Wyandotte High School and the old Kansas City Business College. She married Frank Corbett on Sept. 4, 1944, in Topeka, KS. She lived most of her life in Kansas City, KS, but moved to Topeka in 2001. Dolores enjoyed singing, and playing piano. She was loving, kind, and generous to a fault. She was active in the Council of Clubs for many years and served as its president. She worked at several jobs, but was most proud of her work at the bomber plant during WWII. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years; her parents; brother, Selby Soward; and two sisters, Elizabeth Batty and Miriam McGranahan. She is survived by two daughters, Connie Corbett-Whittier (Duncan Whittier) of Topeka, KS, and Becky Corbett-Spiess (Tom Spiess) of Lakewood, CO; grandsons Matthew Whittier (Julie) of Spring Hill, TN; Christopher Whittier of Lenexa, KS; Benjamin Whittier (Meghan) of Aurora, CO; and Frank Whittier of Tulsa, OK; granddaughters Zada Spiess of Portland, OR; Vivian Spiess of Denver, CO; and Genevieve Spiess of Lakewood, CO; and great-granddaughters Amelia and Isla Whittier. Service will be Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Highland Park Funeral Home, 4101 State Ave., Kansas City, KS. The family will welcome friends at 11 a.m. followed by a memorial service at Noon and burial. The family suggests donations to the American Red Cross to assist those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
