EDWIN WERNER Obituary

Jan. 2, 1930 - Nov. 25, 2015 Edwin J. (Bud) Werner Jr. died Wed., November 25, 2015, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a short but courageous battle against cancer. Bud was born Jan. 26, 1930, in St. Charles, Mo., to Frances Lawlor Baker and Edwin J. Werner, Sr. He grew up in Sikeston, Mo., in the loving care of his grandparents, Essie and James W. Baker Jr. Bud graduated with honors from Onarga Military Academy, in Onarga, Ill., as Company Commander. After graduation, Bud joined the US Navy, stationed at the Naval Submarine base in New London, Connecticut and served for three years. In 1954, Bud graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Business Administration. While there, he served as President of the Student Union, Omicron Delta Kappa, QEBH and his much-loved fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. It was at the University of Missouri that Bud met his future wife, and love of his life, Jacklyn (Jackie) Matthews. They were wed June 4, 1955, and shared 60 years of change, challenge, laughter, excitement, splendid opportunities and deep loving bonds with family and friends. Bud was recruited by Proctor and Gamble, out of college, into their management training program. He then began an illustrious 45 year career in sales and marketing, that included positions as VP of Schick Safety Razor in Los Angeles, Calif., VP Sales at Warner-Lambert in Milford, Conn., and Morris Plains, New Jersey, VP of the Food Division of Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, (now RJR Nabisco). Bud finished his career as Chairman of the Board of PIA (Pacific Indoor Advertising) until his retirement in 1999. Bud was a devoted and loyal friend of Bill W's and treasured his close, loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacklyn Werner, two sons and their wives, Mark Edwin (Dorothee) of Overland Park, Kan., and Kirk Matthews (Lisa) of Morris Plains, New Jersey. His greatest joy were his five grandchildren, Allison, Kelsey, Maxime, Pauline and Jack, who were treasured beyond measure. Many Crystal Lake summer memories were made, with grandchildren in tow, eating fried cinnamon rolls at the Crescent Bakery, learning to drive on Tunnel Road, fishing, water skiing and tubing on Crystal Lake, and flag-lowering after spectacular sunsets. Bud embraced life fully and loved new music, the latest W.E.B. Griffin novel, college football, blueberries, whitefish, salmon, Mrs. Cooper's jam, and the beauty and serenity of Crystal Lake, Mich. Bud is cherished by family and friends for his abundant gifts of unconditional love, support, sense of humor and loving loyalty. A memorial service will be held on a future date at Crystal Lake. The family wishes to thank the loving and caring staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for their empathetic and compassionate support, and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support their good works.
