Ilola Tonsing Obituary

Ilola Virginia Tonsing, 76, Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Atchison, Kan., passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at her home. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Becker-DyerStanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison, KS 66002. Inurnment will be at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. A visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Mark's Lutheran Church or the City Union Mission, Kansas City, Mo., and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com. Miss. Tonsing was born October 11, 1930, in Atchison, Kan., the daughter of Evan and Bess Tonsing. Virginia was a great granddaughter of Governor John Martin and a distant cousin of Amelia Earhart. She attended Atchison Elementary and High School, the Mount Saint Scholastica College in Atchison. She graduated from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Neb., with a degree in Music. After graduation from college, she taught high school in David City, Neb. She was later employed as a Gift and Stationery wholesale buyer for Macys Midwest Region. While employed by Macy's, she traveled extensively around the world. After leaving Macys, she owned her own business as a Fine Gift Wholesale Representative with her display room at a Wholesale Mart in Overland Park, Kan. She was also actively involved with the Fine Arts Singles group of Kansas City and took an active part in assisting with productions at the Starlight Theater. She is survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Evan Eugene Tonsing.

I am Heather West-Auld and Aunt Ginia was my godmother. I love her very much, and am grateful that she was a part of my life. I will miss her daily humerous emails and her constant sense of humor. She will stay in my thoughts forever.
