James Krump Obituary

James B. Krump, 62, Shawnee, KS, passed gently into the arms of his Savior, September 15, 2004, at KU Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18, at Shoal Creek Community Church, 6816 N. Church Rd., Pleasant Valley, MO. Private burial following services. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Charter Funerals, 10250 Shawnee Mission Parkway. Memorial contributions may be made to University of Kansas Medical Center. James B. Krump was born on April 21, 1942 in Norfolk, VA to Michael L. Krump Sr. and his beloved wife, Jessie. Michael, a man of honor and bravery died on Guam behind enemy lines during World War II. He gave his life protecting others in his Navy unit until he was captured. Jessie persevered and was later blessed with another marriage to a kind and loving man, John Wesley Thacker, who accepted both Jim and his older brother, Michael, as his own. Although Jessie and Johnny did not have children together, they raised Michael and Jim to be strong, honorable men. The family lived on a farm in Gardner, KS where the boys learned about hard work and vexed their parents with their orneriness. Frequently the boys wrecked havoc, ruining Sunday clothes by swinging on vines over the creek or welding the schoolhouse doors and windows shut as a Halloween prank. Jim never lost his playful spirit as he progressed through life. He asked his future wife for their first date by jumping up on a diner countertop yelling, " Will you go out with me?" After ignoring her better judgment, she went out with him and married him soon after. They later had a daughter, Holly Ann and lost a daughter, Cindy Sue. Jim and Jean were married more than 40 years. They worked hard to create a life and provide for their daughter. Jim was a contractor and worked on buildings all around the Kansas City area. He helped his father with the family farm on weekends. Even though he suffered several disabilities, his family never wanted for anything. He brought up his daughter to stand for what she believed in, never back down from a fight, and to laugh well and loud - things he had always done himself. He was a loving grandfather to Jessie Kaitlyn and Rachel Taylor Shaw. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with them, teaching them to value life and a good joke. When he learned he had lung cancer, he braved treatment and everything that went with it. Jim never gave up and never walked away from a fight. Sadly, his strong spirit could not overcome the damage to his body. He will be remembered as a good brother, a faithful husband, a loyal friend, and a giving uncle to his nephew, John Krump. His daughter and her family will remember him as their beloved "Daddy Jim." He passed on his strength, his moral courage and his bravery to all that knew him. He will be deeply missed. Holly was one of my best friends in high school. Her father was a great guy. He was always funny and interacted with all of us silly teenagers. My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and Holly.
