Kenneth Shoemake Obituary
February 12, 1936 - June 12, 2024
Basehor , Kansas - Kenneth Gene Shoemake USMC (Retired), age 88, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Kenneth was born on February 12, 1936, in Norman, Oklahoma to Earl and Mary Shoemake. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS where he was captain of the Gymnastics team. He joined the Marine Corps shortly after graduating where he reached the rank of Sergeant. While stationed at Camp Pendleton he met the love of his life, Patricia Schwarz. Upon an honorable discharge from the Marines, Ken and Patricia moved to Kansas City, Kansas and eventually settled in Basehor, KS. Ken wore many hats: Father, Supermarket Store Director, Martial Arts Instructor (he was a 3rd degree black belt), Horse Trainer, and for a short while in 1974 a Deputy Sherrif. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary, and his beloved wife, Patricia. He is survived by his children Randall (Pam), Victor, Kathleen (John) and Cheryl (Brady), his grandchildren, Melissa, Shauna, Kathleen, Lana, Christian, Ryan, Lori, Rachelle, Jeanine, Deborah and Francesca, several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews along with his sisters, Georgia Lightfoot and Delores Morgan. Kenneth's passing has left a void felt deeply by all of those who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life in his honor will be held at Alden Harrington Event Services, 218 Oak Steet, Bonner Springs, KS 66012 on Saturday, June 29th, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 and will include a dinner on his behalf

Years ago Ken and his son Randy took lessons at the karate class I was teaching in Leavenworth. Ken was already a very fine black belt and I enjoyed training with him and his son. A fine man, great attitude and and a great loss. Our prayers to the family, Semper Fi.

To the family of Ken Shoemaker, I had the privilege of working for Ken as a Service Manager at the Leavenworth Price Chopper and learned a lot from him and enjoyed working with him. I lived in Mission, KS at the time and he was very kind to take me on a tour of the Leavenworth community so I could understand the community and our customers.
