Kevin Gerrity Obituary

Kevin Michael Gerrity died quietly, alone at his home in Bakersfield, Calif., on November 17, 2007. He was born December 19, 1950, in Washington, D.C., at Doctors Hospital. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents John and Evelyn Gerrity, and a brother Timothy. Kevin was a gentle soul with tremendous love and compassion for others, above all else his children Dillon, Lillian, and Liam Gerrity. A man of keen intellect and determination, he was a reporter, editor, columnist and feature writer for more than 20 years. During his years as a newspaper man, he earned two dozen national, regional and state writing awards. Being a versatile and unpredictable man, he also worked as a hard-rock miner on the Washington Metro, as a pig hauler in Ireland, and as a cabinet maker in Kansas City. Kevy, an unpretentious man, had a great love for telling stories, laughter, and conversation. Along the way he even learned to play the saxophone- a Selmer 162. A graveside service and celebration in his honor will be held at the Pomfret Manor Cemetery in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, on April 5, 2008, at 4 p.m. in the afternoon. Condolences may be directed to [email protected].

He would play the saxophone and I the trumpet. I shall never forget our time together. Though I cannot hear him now, I'm sure he is making beautiful music in the Kingdom of our Lord.

Kevin, the world seems a little empty without you.

Kevin was a brilliant journalist, both a scrupulous reporter and an inspired writer. But even better, he was a really decent guy who cared very deeply about his kids. Really decent guys tend to be in short supply in journalism, so he'll be missed on all sorts of levels. Take care Kevy.
