MAVIS ELIZABETH PLUMMER Mavis Elizabeth Plummer, 79, of Raytown, MO, died July 28, 2017, from leukemia. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Sat., Aug. 19, at Hickman Mills Community Christian Church, 5809 E Red Bridge Rd, Kansas City, MO. Mavis was born June 14, 1938 in Wichita, KS, the only child of Linda and George Gowan. She grew up in Parsons, KS, and studied music at Pittsburg State University. A mezzo soprano, she spent the summers of 1959 and 1960 in the cast of the Muni Opera in St. Louis. Mavis also worked at a hospital and eventually attended nursing school in Winfield, KS. She moved to St. Louis and studied at Washington University and worked at Barnes Hospital. She met Max Plummer while at Pittsburg State. The two were married June 1, 1967, and she moved to Kansas City, later living in Raytown. The couple had three sons, Jonathan, Jeremy, and Benjamin. After raising her sons, Mavis returned to nursing, working as a pulmonary nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. She retired in 2003 after 22 years at the hospital. Mavis was a member of Hickman Mills Community Christian Church, and sang in the Kansas City Civic Chorus. Her survivors include Max Plummer, her three sons, and three grandchildren.
