Joe and I were in the 41st Officer Candidate Class. We were commissioned in September 1966. Joe went directly to flight school, and I went to The Basic School in Quantico. Later we attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. Then we both went to Headquarters Marine Corps. Joe's office was just down the hallway from mine. Joe and I were running buddies. We ran many road races together. Joe was part of my family, and our children loved him. He ate frequent dinners with us until Pat joined him in Virginia. We used to laugh about him dropping tear gas on me in the battle for Hue City, Viet Nam. Not all Marines had gas masks unlike like the NVA. Joe was flying the F-4 Phantom at that time. Joe was a leader and charismatic Marine. I retired to Oklahoma and thought about Joe and Pat often. I wish we could have stayed in closer contact. I found out about Joe's death in the "Semper Fidelis" newsletter. I LOVE you and miss you my friend and buddy!!! I'll see you in Heaven!!! Al Johns

Joe was a loving brother who was kind and sweet to his sisters and brothers. He was devoted to his mother all her life. He will be sorely missed. We loved him dearly.
