George Brannen Obituary

George W. Brannen

George W. Brannen passed away December 1, 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his two stepsons, Christopher Renner and Douglas Renner. He was a loving husband and caring stepfather.

George was raised in Geneva, IL where he attended Elgin Academy and went on to graduate from Dartmouth College and Duke University Law School. After graduating from Duke, George practiced law in the Chicago area and became a well-respected trial lawyer where he handled many complicated cases in Kane, DuPage, and Cook counties.

George was a tireless worker and transferred that ethic to his personal life. His energy and zest for life is one of inspiration that he shared with his family and friends. George loved traveling with the family, sports, reading and fun times with everyone including strangers.

George will always be remembered for his perseverance and will to live. He beat the odds with multiple health issues dating back to his battle with stage 4 cancer when he was 23. We feel so blessed that George had the strength and courage to fight through these ailments to share his life with us. He was truly a unique and remarkable person and will be missed, remembered and loved forever.

For those who would like to share in his celebration of life, a memorial visitation will be held December 15th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at 511 Fargo Boulevard, Geneva, IL 60134.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society on George W. Brannen's behalf.

George was a role model for me during his entire time with us. I think of him often and am proud to bear his same name. He demonstrated tolerance and perseverance with multiple substantial health issues while keeping a positive attitude and sense of humor and spirit. I commonly key off of his humor and his elegance of words in social situations.

George and I lived together at Duke Universiity during Law School, after both graduating from Dartmouth College. We remained close friends all of our lives. In later years, after I retired from Motorola, I had the privilege of working with George at his law firm in St. Charles on some interesting and complex cases. We enjoyed many lunches in St. Charles and Geneva discussing strategies on cases. Very sad to hear of his passing after his many medical struggles. My wife also has fond memories of George and his mom. My sympathies to Patricia and his family.

My memories of the holidays and my Uncle George are intertwined. He often showed up to the Christmas Eve party with the hit gift of the year-a fun toy or game that kept the kids busy all night. And George was always playing along with the kids and having as much fun as anyone enjoying the cheer of the holiday. I'll always admire and miss George's convivial spirit and his zest for life. He's one of the funnest kids I've ever known!

George has been a role model for me during my entire life. His commitment to excellence coupled with a spontaneous sense of humor attracted my efforts to emulate his personality. Our family would commonly visit his family during our youthful years and we've remained in contact. His positive attitude shined as a role model to all during his adult years as he faced extreme and painful health challenges. He is and will be very missed, but always remembered.

George has been a role model and an inspiration during my entire life. His search for excellence coupled with an engaging sense of humor drew me in and guided my aspirations. Our family would visit him, his parents, and brother commonly during our early years. His positive attitude and energy to prevail in health challenges radiated inspiration to others.
He is and will be so very missed, yet permanently remembered.

George was one of my law partners in the 1970's, prior to my move to Oregon. During that time, as we worked several complicated cases together, I was privileged to know him as a lawyer and became a friend. I watched him battle his recurring health issues and was always impressed that he never gave up or gave in.
I will miss his presence in this world. My condolences to his family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to George's family. I started my legal career as a law clerk for George pre-law school in the late 80's and often think about how he practiced law to this day. I remember his wit and wisdom fondly. He will be missed.
