Barry Craig Kimes, age 70 of Yorkville, IL passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 21, 1951 in Aurora, IL the son of Donald and Wanda (Harthan) Kimes.
Barry was united in marriage on July 18, 1971 to Susan Farren and they spent the next 50 years happily together. Mr. Kimes was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the War in Vietnam. He was a longtime member and past Commander of the Yorkville American Legion Post #489 in Yorkville, IL. Mr. Kimes was formerly employed, for many years, as the Fleet Supervisor at Nalco Chemical Company in Bedford Park, IL.
He enjoyed hosting Sunday night dinners where everyone was welcome. Barry loved to fish; travel with his wife, children and grandchildren; attend his grandchildren's activities; and enjoyed playing a game or two of poker.
Barry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Barry is survived by his wife, Susan Kimes of Yorkville, IL; his daughters, Kristen (Andy) Langston of Sheridan, IL, Kim Jones of Yorkville, IL and Keri Phillipp of Yorkville, IL; his grandchildren, Halle Jones, Caden Langston, Elise Phillipp, Cooper Langston, Quinn Jones, Macie Jones and Brodie Phillipp; his father, Donald Kimes of LaSalle, IL and his mother, Wanda Forrestal of Aurora, IL; his sister, Lisa Hahn of Yorkville, IL; his brother, Jason (Sherri) Kimes of South Carolina; also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David Lee Kimes; his step-father, Richard Forrestal; his father and mother-in-law, Emil and Ruth Farren; as well as his uncle, Willard Harthan.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM with a viewing from 10:00 AM until the Hour of Service on Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Yorkville Congregational United Church of Christ, 409 Center Parkway, Yorkville, IL, with Pastor Timothy C. Rhodes, officiating. Interment will be private.
Friends may visit from 3:00 until 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL.
The family would like to thank Dr. Alexander Hantel and his staff at the Edward Cancer Center for their compassionate care over the past years, as well as the staff at Edward Hospital.
