David Jones Obituary

JONES David Arthur, 39, died unexpectedly of complications from diabetes on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. He is survived by his parents, Joseph R. and Margaret E.W. Jones of Lexington; a sister, Alison Margaret Jones of Nashville; a cousin, Michael D. Moriarty of Ossining, NY; and his fianc‚e Jacquelyn Kaye Doan. David was a remarkable young man, hard to describe in a short paragraph. He was a natural athlete. As a junior cyclist, he won numerous local and national races and trained with the American Olympic team in Belgium. He graduated from Henry Clay High School, Miami University and Vanderbilt (Master's Degree in Chemistry), and was working on a PhD at UK until his health forced him to withdraw. He was a fine singer, had been a treble in the Good Shepherd choir, and had sung with the UK opera in The Magic Flute. He was also an accomplished guitarist, writing his own material and recording all the parts on self-produced CDs. While living in Nashville, he won the country Music Marathon and as prizes received a custom-made guitar and a performance with Lee Roy Parnell at the Ryman Auditorium. He was a crack shot, and his current hobby was learning to fly the helicopter. David faced his illnesses with humor and sarcasm, and his quick wit made him popular with everyone, including his fellow students, teachers and his own students. He was a proud descendant of Huguenot immigrants, Colonial and Revolutionary warriors, and Texas pioneers. His death leaves an unfillable hole in the hearts of his family and friends. The Burial Office and Eucharist will be celebrated at the church of the Good Shepherd at 10am on Tuesday, April 23, followed by a reception in the undercroft. Since David was an animal lover and had adopted several abandoned pets, including his cat Cammy (for "camouflage"), the family suggests memorial contributions to SOS, a local group that manages feral cats (P.O. Box 31965, Lexington, KY 40522).

We are so sorry for your loss. We got to know David as he took up his hobby of helicopters, he would come to the shop to fly on windy days. It was always amazing to hear all that he had done in his short life! He was a fun and great customer to talk to. We will miss him dearly.

I am a better man for having David in my life. I love you Jones family. David was steadfast in discussing with me the love, understanding, and guidance his mother and father provided... Incredibly grateful for their opinion and direction in life. He shared with me what "family" is...
I love you for giving me the best friend a man can have!

I met David at Vanderbilt when he was in the Chemistry PhD program. I worked in the chemistry office, and we became fast friends. He was one of the first friends I made after moving to Nashville, and he introduced me to eating sushi & having deep, philosophical conversation! I had the privilege of singing backup on one of his albums, and experiencing his musicianship was quite amazing! My heart breaks for his fiancée and family. His untimely death is unbelievable but I hope & believe we will meet him again one day in Glory. God bless the Jones family, many prayers and heartfelt sympathy to you all.

This coming summer it would have been 30 years that we had known each other. The man had as many talents as diamonds have facets. My prayer for his family is that they find solace in Gods loving and healing arms and in the knowledge that their souls shall someday be reunited. ....

Dearest Joe, Margaret, and Ali,

Lin and I are just devastated to hear about David. We were in denial most of yesterday, but thoughts of David were streaming steadily through our minds. We have known him SO long, and have loved watching him grow and mature and try his various careers. I was so proud to hear his ultimate choice. I am so saddened for you three. I think John Cirigliano said it best in his poem. May God bless and comfort you, and permit you to heal this incredible, unbelievable wound. Having just "spoken" to you yesterday before this tragedy, I feel this wound so especially deeply.

We are saddened by your loss and the loss to all who knew your son. He will meet you at the end of the trail. Very sincerely, Gin and Dave Preston

Drs. Margaret and Joe,

I am so saddened by the news of David's passing and I send my love and comfort to you both, Ally and your entire family. I remember him as a little boy that I babysat once or twice in the UK tower. He was so full of energy, imagination and great creativity. Although it has been many years, I know that he was indeed a shining light to you and all those he met in his lifetime. I grieve with you today. "When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart and you shall see that, in truth, you are weeping for that which has been your delight." You are in my heart today.
