Eloise Caroland

June 21, 1934 - July 2, 2024

Georgetown, Kentucky - Eloise "Ellie" Crickard Caroland, widow of William B. Caroland, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Born June 21, 1934 in Hazelwood, Randolph County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy Ware Crickard.

A graduate of Elkins High School and Morris Harvey College, she continued graduate studies in anthropology at the University of Louisville, University of Cincinnati and the University of Kentucky. She later took writing classes at the Carnegie Center in Lexington, KY and published multiple books featuring the lives of several family members. Ellie retired as a Genealogical Records Researcher. She was a Past President of the Scott County Historical Society, Scott County Genealogical Society and Scott County Arts Council. A former board member of the Georgetown/Scott County Museum and the Friends of the Kentucky Public Archives, former of the American Association of the University Women-Georgetown Chapter. She was a proud volunteer at the Scott County Public Library for 17 years and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2015 by the Kentucky Public Library Association. Ellie was interested in history and genealogy, enjoyed reading, writing, lunch with friends and Sundays with family. She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Jim) Caroland-Shaw and Brad (Tina) Caroland; grandchildren, Dorothy Shaw, John Gordon Shaw, Christopher Pasley and Ryan (Emily) Pasley; nieces, Mary Arden (Charlie) Ritter McElroy, Donna Jo (Arthur) Sirk Carpenter (deceased), Christie Sirk (Doug) Mentzer, Robin Harris, and Pam Bagley; nephews, Stephen Sirk and David (Bonnie) Sirk. In addition to her husband, to whom she was married to for 65 years, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard N. Crickard; and sisters, Janet Dale Hanlin and Joan R. Sirk. A memorial service will be 11 AM Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Johnson's Funeral Home in Georgetown, Kentucky, conducted by Rev. Ken Hale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carnegie Center for Literacy & Learning at 251 W. Second Street, Lexington, KY 40507 or donate online at CarnegieCenterLex.org. Bill, and Jennifer, I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. Please offer my condolences to the rest of your family. I always enjoyed working with you and your Dad at American Consulting Engineering. I now live in South Carolina so the only contact I have is through the paper.
