Joan Bostrom Obituary
June 8, 1929 - June 11, 2020
Frankfort, Kentucky - Joan Rae Johnson Bostrom was born in Sioux City Iowa on June 8, 1929 and passed away in Frankfort, Kentucky on June 11, 2021. She is survived by her three children: Rob Bostrom of Versailles (Laura), Erik Bostrom of Versailles (Anita) and Rebecca Bostrom of Columbus, Ohio (Gary Langfitt); her five grandchildren: Maria Bostrom Galvin, Peter Bostrom, Anna Bostrom, Caitlin Langfitt and Ash Mosquera; and two great grandchildren: Niall Galvin and Rory Galvin.
She received a history degree from Morningside College in Sioux City. She married Dr. Robert Bostrom and his career as a professor lead them to Iowa City, Iowa; Sacramento, California; Macomb, Illinois; and Athens, Ohio before coming to Lexington. Joan and Robert went their separate ways which led to a career in real estate and the College of Law at the University of Kentucky, from which she retired the age of 76. Joan and her partner of over 30 years, Ralph Huffsey, enjoyed a life of gardening, reading and the grandchildren.
Joan treasured her grandchildren and was always in attendance at their many activities in the arts and athletics. Joan was known for her glorious gardens and shared flower arrangements with any one she visited. She instilled a love of books and reading to her children. In all the places she lived, the family dinner table was open to all to share her delicious cooking skills. piled high with her wonderful cooking.
Services will be held at the Apostles Anglican Church in Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday, June 19th at 2:15 EDT with visitation preceding at 1:00. Donations may be made in Joan's honor to the Bluegrass Council of the Blind or the Lexington Alzheimer's Association.

Condolences to members of the Bostrom family. Joan will be missed by Jim and me, as well as my mom, Emily Cummins, who enjoyed many evenings with Joan and Ralph for "happy hour." Fly high, Joan.

Dear Rob, Erik, and Rebecca,
I am so sorry to hear about your mom's passing this week. The obituary brought back memories of what a lovely cook she was and her beautiful flowers. She was always so hospitable when our family visited. I also remember how very generous your mother was. I still have a special gold monogrammed necklace she gave me for my high school graduation and remember her always buying me things when she visited us in Sioux City and Nebraska. At Christmas time I loved watching Grandma Florence open all the beautifully wrapped gifts she had sent her.
I always thought Aunt Joan was a wonderful mom. Once when I talked to her about motherhood she told me how very rewarding it had been and how the three of you had been such a source of pride to her. I also remember my parents remarking what a wonderful job Aunt Joan and Uncle Bob had done raising three special children.
I am so grateful to hear that she had a special loving relationship with Ralph for thirty years. I am so hoping that your mom and my dad, (her brother) can enjoy being together again in heaven.

We had some fun times together when she would come to get her hair done.Ralph would join us sometimes. He always had a story to tell.Sad to hear this . prayers to the family .

My condolences to Joan's family. I always looked forward to having Joan and Ralph come to my store, Marketplace On Main, to shop. Our conversations were always interesting and entertaining. Even after alzheimer's appeared Joan continued to greet me with that beautiful smile and her eyes twinkling.
