Noreen EVANS Obituary

EVANS Noreen Grainger (Nonnie), died Thu, July 12, 2012 after a rich, full life dedicated to the service of others. Nonnie was born in English, WV, on Oct 24, 1921. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren C. Evans, whom she married on Sep 8, 1944. As newlyweds, they lived in Palm Springs, CA, for one year, where Lt. Evans was stationed after serving as a pilot in the Air Force during World War II. Following their move to Lexington in 1945, Nonnie and Warren were active members of Second Presbyterian Church, where they joined the church's Kupples Klub. Nonnie was employed by the Lexington Clinic for 22 years until her retirement and was a loyal member of PEO Sisterhood, Chapter R. Nonnie's love of the children of family and friends was well-known to all who knew her. She was also preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice McDarmont Grainger of England and WV; siblings Edna Grainger Murphy and James Christopher Grainger, both of Chattanooga, TN; Charles Robson Grainger of Orlando, FL; and Jane (Jennie) Grainger Murphy of Louisville, KY; nephews, Thomas Williams Murphy of Chattanooga and Lawrence Robson Grainger of Roan Mountain, TN. Survivors include niece, Mary Ellen Harbor Harris of Lexington; nephew, Dr. James K. Murphy of Carrollton, GA; niece, Jane Murphy Hixson of Rossville, GA; niece-in-law, Linda Johnson Murphy of Chattanooga; nephews, James V. Grainger of Sparta, TN, and Dr. Christopher J. Grainger of Ocala, FL; nieces, Julia Grainger Whittaker of Collierville, TN, and Frances Grainger Stone of Fairfield Glade, TN; nephews, Robert M. Murphy of Yorkville, IL, and William R. Murphy of St. Petersburg, FL; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Nonnie loved and was loved by the families of Mrs. Evelyn and the late Dr. Allen Cornish, Jr.; Dr. Allen III and Betty Cornish; Liz Cornish; Jim and Donna Cornish; Kate and John Johnson; Georgia and Bob Drake; and especially her "Lexington family" Caroline and Joe Federspiel and children, Lee Anne Federspiel Schlarman, Jamie "Noreen," Davis and Michael. Visitation will be from 10am-noon Mon, July 16, at Milward Funeral Home, 1509 Trent Boulevard (off Man-O-War), Lexington. Funeral services will be at noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels at Second Presbyterian Church, 460 East Main Street, Lexington, KY 40507.
